At the point I am at there is literally no explanation to where the hell this castle ship came from, how the Doom Slayer escaped from whatever Samuel Hayden did in Doom 2016, Vega's just back from the dead and is Doom Guy's personal assistant, and Earth is being completely annihilated and you have no idea what caused it to happen.
It's like the equivalent of starting a long series at season 3 instead of the beginning.
He was just teleported to Argentina, there were probably some sentinel stuff around, its probably how we get the Fortress of Doom.
"Vega's just back from the dead"
Doomguy made a backup before destroying his core
"Earth is being completely annihilated and you have no idea what caused it to happen"
In one of the codex, its explained that the UAC divisions on earth were already turned and started the invasion. I thought it was Hayden, but apparently not.
I do understand how it feels like we skipped many things though. Us starting out in the Fortress of Doom was surprising. Was hoping they would should us how he really got back to earth. I guess this'll be explained in their planned single-player DLCs in the future.
Angel aliens are mad at Earth because...the story has to happen. So Demon aliens get to invade because... the game has to happen. And the Vikings are ordered to stay out of it because... the main character needs to be the special chosen one that is on a first name basis with every demon lord in existence. Heck, he used to work for them! But he's the special chosen one so the rules don't apply to him. Look at him breaking the rules we don't know, isn't he just a bad ass?
It's like Half Life 2, Halo, and God of War had a baby. And we don't know who the father is.
I could ignore it and just play the game if the game would stop shoving cut scenes down my throat every 15 minutes. Heck, the protagonist from the first game would have shot both priests at the end of the tutorial level before they got to the 2nd sentence. Game over.
Remember Doom 2's story? "Demons killed your pet rabbit. Avenge Daisy. Here's a shotgun, GO" And it was awesome.
