No ammo against Khan Maykr

So am I missing something or is there just no ammo during the Khan Maykr boss fight? I'm completely out and the only way I can see to replenish is to wait for a couple shells to respawn in the arena. I'm not getting any ammo at all from killing enemies and I can't chainsaw them. I'm forced to just wait for the ammo to spawn and hopefully drain her health with the very little it gives me. Is there something extremely obvious right in front of my face that I'm missing?

Shoot her minions in the head with Rifel equipped with scope mod.

They drop what you need.

I thought I was, but apparently not? Does it need to be very specific? It would've been nice if it was somehow telegraphed to me that's how I had to do it. I genuinely had no idea I could even get ammo from them.
I just beat the boss and I have to be honest, as much as I've loved this game so far, this fight was just atrocious. I'm just disappointed.

Game tells you in the codex page that if you headshot them, they will drop health and ammo.

Ugh, I figured there was something I was missing. Still, it would be nice if the chainsaw worked on them. They seem small and frail enough for it to work.

Headshot is headshot, you can get a Maykr Drone drop resources (health and ammo) by the following:
-Heavy Cannon Precision Bolt headshot, as stated in tutorial
-Headshot with unmodded Ballista shot (needs good aim and a bit of luck :P)
-Combat Shotgun Sticky Bomb attached to the head, similar how you destroy Arachnotron turret
-A shot aimed at the general direction of the head with Super Shotgun up close, though it is a probability variable, not 100%, but above 75%
-Don't try to chainsaw them. Ever. Waste of time, chainsaw fuel (if it even works, I didn't bother with it) and their melee attack at close range is surprisingly strong.

Noob method (I use this one): backtrack until Ice Bomb is available, freeze one Maykr drone and headshot.

Everything is fine, op. I myself faced a similar problem. I think the game should say "hit the mobs in the head, get ammo." In plain text. In full screen. Because game does it when you get a dash or any other thing. Why, when they give me a saw, they teleport me to a separate location, lead me by the hand to the monster and say "here is the monster, drank it," and in your situation they tactfully keep silent? The mechanics need to be explained immediately and now. Instead of referring to some page of the codex which you will not read during the battle. As for me, the developers just forgot about this moment. This is not our mistake, but a bug.
