tried lookingglass?

Same here, it opens the wine tray the it crashes. I enabled proton logs (you can do that setting launch options to: PROTON_LOG=1 %command%) and here is the output: https://dpaste.org/Fz0O (Available until 26th March). Let's hope someone finds a workaround, but it seems like a library problem to me.

Oh, my specs:

OS: Arch Linux
KERNEL: 5.5.7-arch1-1
CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 @ 3.60GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
GPU DRIVER: NVIDIA 440.64
RAM: 24 GB

Create a bug report for DOOM Ethernal here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues

And upload your Proton logs.

Please do as Omega suggested and open a Proton issue asap, with the logs attached.

Doesn't prevent us from running it.

idTechLauncher is the culprit ... crap why do they all force people into using their ♥♥♥♥♥♥ "launchers" these days

Edit: github issue is here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3654

Can you test this? Change the steam client to use beta (beta participation). It has a newer libvulkan:

nope, it appears that doom is well and truly borked on linux as of right now. it appears that the latest nvidia drivers are required to run this bit*h (at least for me) as it wouldn't even start on a windows machine without that.

Store page does specify Windows only in requirements

Other than extra launch parameters to skip intro movies, and a custom Proton package there wasn't a lot of effort to get it to run.

It actually works very well. If the game looses focus to a popup message or ALT-TAB, the game looses focus there's no way to get it back and has to be killed from a terminal.

Fiddling with the video settings also causes the game to lose focus.

I'm assuming once the next official Proton comes out, it'll address those issues, and is why it's probably taking so long. (COVID-19 non-withstanding)

Currently running on Ubuntu 19.10

As of writing:
Running it on a Ryzen 5 3600, with a RTX 2060 Super

Kernel 5.6.2
NVIDIA Driver 440.82
Proton 5.5-GE-1 (Glorious Eggroll custom proton)

The latest Proton Beta also runs the game just fine. You will have to opt in to the Beta branch of Proton 5.0.

On AMD hardware you do still need the very latest MESA drivers from Git and Vulkan-icd-loader 1.2.135+.
