Will there be an option to turn off blood/gore?
Yeah, I get it. It's Doom but I think this time it's over the top.

ye but thats another story... the difference is u cant turn it back on ;P
this would be like devs change doom to a nyan cat shooter. so when the poles are molten there will be a nyan cat shooter maybe ;P but there still will be blood and gore in doom without the option to turn it off like u cant turn on and off ice at the poles ;)
maybe u should ask in the nyan cat forums to turn off rainbows and sparkles?! :P

Speaking as a Doom fan who has been slaying since the 1st game came out... I'm fine with gore in the context of using weapons to kill demons. The weapon gore and violence have been integral to Doom from the beginning and without it... it's just not Doom anymore imo.

But... I could, in all honesty, do without the new hard-core physical hands-on butchering of demons. I don't feel it brings anything to the franchise other other than to de-humanize the protagonist. It delves into self-parody too much imo. Demons are a mindless bunch and the over the top physical violence feels petty and unnecessary coming from our hero. It fees like the Doom Guy/Slayer isn't quite as human as they once were and that they are now just indulging themselves in a physical orgy of violence. I always thought that the character had more self control, that he was a hero in the traditional sense and that the only violence that occurred was what was necessary to win. He seems tainted by darkness now... but maybe that's something the series could eventually speak to and address? Who knows?

This guy already made a few bait threads and I'm guessing this one's no different.

Ummm @Godling, dude that is the best part of the whole game. its supposed to make you feel like a super demi god, there is no way in hell that you can be humanized slaughtering an entire demon army. the people that are humanized are those that you walk by and see whom were slaughtered by the demons. if you get rid of the glory kills id be kinda upset. but hey thats just my opinion.

Just to be clear, I'm okay with violence like this existing in games. In the case of Doom it mostly bothers me for just being an unacknowledged movement away from the archetypes of the traditional hero. And while actual story in Doom has always been minimal, I still think it would be interesting if his dehumanization was directly acknowledged as problematic in some way and it was something to overcome or at least something to be concerned about... something to reflect upon. And he wouldn't need to return to being more in control... not at all. He could keep being the crazed demon-slayer he is... I'd just like it more in the fore-front of whatever story there is. Address it in some way. I think it would bring some interesting depth to the character.

At no point is it making a parody of itself, it merely embraces it's roots and it knows what they are. By no means is he tainted by darkness LOL. Have you not seen the doom comic?
