Game Ruined by Giant Boss Creature in Early Game
I was trying the multiplayer playtest out with a friend, and we were about 20-30 minutes into the game, when a giant boss creature aggroed at us and proceeded to destroy our entire base and completely wipe the floor. Is this intentional?! We hadn't even unlocked weapon research yet - it completely ruined the game for us and we won't be playing again unless this is fixed.

Was this in Survival mode, or Campaign? What difficulty level were you using?

If it was Survival, then this is expected. Survival is an exercise in frustration even on Easy difficulty for those who aren't prepared.

The Campaign is a lot more forgiving, but can be a challenge on higher difficulties.

There is also the fact that the game dynamically scales the difficulty based on the number of players present at any given time, both in Survival and Campaign.

Multiplayer is still in beta development, and part of that is balancing the difficulties. Feedback like this is what the devs are looking for to help them sort the balancing.
We were doing multiplayer - where from what I could see only Survival and the Tutorial were available.

Okay, yeah, if you were doing Survival, then the boss creature was entirely intentional. Like I said, Survival is an exercise in frustration for the inexperienced and unprepared, even on Easy difficulty.

If you own the game, you can follow the instructions in the open beta news release and access the experimental branch of the paid game to play the multiplayer Campaign. The Campaign is a lot more forgiving and can help you gain familiarity with the game.
Alright, I'll try that - though I need to see if I can convince my friend to even touch the game again after that experience. It really sucked.

Yeah, I can understand that. I typically don't play Survival because of stuff like that. I don't like frustration and stress. I play games to get away from that nonsense.

Other options that are available are to use either Custom Difficulty settings to adjust some of the difficulty parameters, or use Sandbox difficulty which will disable enemy attack waves entirely, allowing you build at your leisure.
The wild part was that this wasn't even part of an attack wave. We were entirely unprepared. The boss just showed up out of nowhere with tons of very strong goons and began to absolutely wipe the floor with us.
Sounds like you touched one of those boss summoning loot egg things.
I wasn't there when it happened. That may very well be the case.

Or some other player dropped into the session, found one of those eggs, activated it, then bailed. That is unfortunately a thing that can happen in multiplayer. You can supposedly lock your game with a password to prevent it, but I'm not entirely sure that feature works.
We were playing friends only - friend also says they weren't opening anything that felt too suspicious, so either it wasn't spawned by an egg like that or these danger eggs are just very difficult to identify.

They shouldn't be. Big glowing thing on your screen, really hard to miss. The red ones are the most dangerous.

And yeah, "friends only" may not be working properly. I don't know for sure.
There are 3 different types:
1. Gives you a random buff, looks kind of like {} on the minimap
2. Gives you random loot, including mods or weapons, it looks like a circle on the minimap
3. Summons a wave of death that increases depending on it's color (White -> Blue -> Purple -> Red) it can also be activated after the wave for loot and looks like a Diamond on the minimap <>
was playing this game for the very first time.

was collecting some glowing stuff, was just playing campaign, i ended up summon a wave of monster horde, easily manage able but there was this big blue rock that resisted everything.

what else bothered me is that there were some flying insects that i couldn't stab, nor shoot, so resisted + flying kinda got me D:

i figured this is the same concept, i googled this and got here. I know it was my own mistake, interesting.

As far as the enemies go that you described....

The big blue rock dude sounds like a variation on the Gnerot. They are highly resistant to standard physical damage, which is what most of your starting weaponry deals in. Their weakness is "area" damage (the icon in the weapon stats looks sorta like a pink explosion), and energy is usually a decent second choice. A Hammer is a good friend when you have Gnerots heading for you ;)

The flying ones, I'm not sure why you weren't able to hit them. If you were in melee range of them those weapons should have still hit from what I recall, and your projectile weapons ought to have been able to hit them as long as they weren't getting blocked by something else in between (for example, you can't shoot over your own base walls, unless you build and stand on the raised flooring).

Likely the tiny bug fliers that come from the giant strider creatures. Those creatures often stand well off-screen and send the bugs. Towers will attempt to shoot at them, but I do not know if they can even be killed. It's best to aim for the strider and kill it fast, and the tiny fliers buzz off then.
