What does "Familiarity" do?
I know that familiarity can help unlock the skill tree, but are there other things it helps with? Asking because I've just spent an hour scanning every plant and animal I could and could find a difference it has made other than getting a pat on the back from the game.

Some research requires familiarity. Cultivating plants is locked behind familiarity. And then there's a campaign objective that requires a bit.

I'd say cultivating is the big one. Maps have sub-biomes and sometimes looking for something can be a real pain if you miss it the first time around, or perhaps never came across it.

Anyways, those are the only uses I know.

harvest and damage bonus.

I've also read that high familiarity with creatures leads to more frequent and higher quality mod drops when they die.
