Yeah absolutely love it! Especially when you add a few mods that affect the balance of the game. Vanilla is quite easy by default, so I love seeing people add higher difficulty mods!
The only downside for me is that the game gets quite laggy when several thousand creatures run at your base from four different directions at once.
And in my current game, my top left part of the base has a choke point that's one tile wide, which means that all of them coming from that side want to go through that choke point and only incrementally spill around the rock to get through the wide area. It takes a while before they're all dead, so sometimes, I get even more attacks come in before the first one was defeated
My tower range mod does help performance a bit because you only need half the amount of towers to cover open areas, though it won't help in chokepoints.
I think the lag comes more from the game engine.
Maybe you should try a HQ6 or HQ7 upgrade wave at 500% multiplier and see if your system lags or not :D
Furthermore, I have modified the ambient attacks mod. I took out the Arachnoid bosses (because 10 of them showing up at one side of the base was too much) and replaced them with more smaller mobs.
