Geiger Counter Noise - Can we get an option to disable that?
I understand it "detects radiation" but that constant ticking noise gets annoying (at least for me). Could you perhaps either:

1. Make an option to disable it entirely

2. Make a radiation counter that appears over your UI / Shield / HP bars so it alerts you if you're too close (tells you rad levels).

3. Perhaps do both?

It just gives me a literal headache hearing that nonstop. Something about that frequency and sound just causes me to get a headache. When I'm not on the desert map I am fine. No other sounds so far have bothered me. I fear no sound...but that sound...that sound scares me. Thanks for your time.

To make things worse it is also largely pointless as you get radiation immunity fairly quickly, so it just becomes constant clicking for no reason.

Once you're immunized to radiation it ought to get shut off. If I'm not going to get damaged by it I really don't care about it

So much this. I have the suit upgrade after the first recon mission and now my brain is screaming in agony listening to this constant clicking sound when I have no fear of damage from the rads. x.x I think it's just too high pitched for my ears. The FO4 counter was a lot more duller and bass oriented in sound. This one is like a screeching cicada Geiger Counter Edition.

I was worried about that. Thank God it's not on that map too.

Modding wins again, at least for those so inclined.

sound/scripts/mech.ess

at the bottom is an entry for geiger_counter, just set the gain to 0, and embrace the silence.

Is that inside the steapapps>common>riftbreaker> file area?

yeah, in packs/00_win_data.zip

In case you need it.

Thanks I checked around in the sound area but never figured out where the actual file was.

Went to save the file but it won't let me overwrite it. I'm not sure why. I'm doing save, not save as. Is there something I'm missing here?

Thank you! This worked perfectly.

Did you read the Wiki? start there.

So you should be extracting the file from the zip and editing that copy anyway, and if you can extract the file it shouldn't be giving you write errors.

Just unzip 00_win_data.zip, copy out that one file and paste it in that exact folder structure (sound/scripts/mech.ess). Then set gain to 0, save the file, zip that folder and call it whatever you like and copy it to the packs folder of your game. No overwrite needed.

I am currently trying out all sorts of stuff. Having more fun with that than actually playing the game. :datadisk: I tried to deactivate the four "carbonium storage full" voice messages, but to no success so far.
The file is sound/scripts/voice_over_announcement.ess, but even deleting that whole segment didn't stop them from gabbing all the time.
