So much this. I have the suit upgrade after the first recon mission and now my brain is screaming in agony listening to this constant clicking sound when I have no fear of damage from the rads. x.x I think it's just too high pitched for my ears. The FO4 counter was a lot more duller and bass oriented in sound. This one is like a screeching cicada Geiger Counter Edition.
sound/scripts/mech.ess
at the bottom is an entry for geiger_counter, just set the gain to 0, and embrace the silence.
In case you need it.

Thank you! This worked perfectly.
Did you read the Wiki? start there.
So you should be extracting the file from the zip and editing that copy anyway, and if you can extract the file it shouldn't be giving you write errors.
I am currently trying out all sorts of stuff. Having more fun with that than actually playing the game.
The file is sound/scripts/voice_over_announcement.ess, but even deleting that whole segment didn't stop them from gabbing all the time.
