Most important tip: DO NOT DAWDLE, rush as fast as you can or you will get overwhelmed
The enemy waves in this game increase at a VERY fast rate with time, and are not capped in anyway. They just keep getting stronger and stronger until they are impossible to beat.

I was not expecting this and took my time fully clearing the first map, but now i will probably have to start completely over because I can only just barely survive the invasion waves, and even that with my base half destroyed and needing to be rebuilt, meaning im not progressing the main missions and just wasting more precious time for the enemies to build up even stronger.

On other maps, I took my time establishing full proper working bases instead of rushing the objectives, and again now every enemy wave pretty much wipes out my entire base.

So lesson to all of you: RUSH the objectives as fast as you possibly can or you will get stuck in a spiral of death.

To the DEVS: PLEASE put some kind of progress-locked cap on the enemy waves so that more casual players actually stand a chance of enjoying this game

EDIT: To all of you saying that I dont have proper defenses setup I give you this screenshot of a section of them: https://prnt.sc/1wmx6v2 As you can see Ive crammed in a layer of flamers, followed by a layer of rockets with some plasmas and several artillery, and Im still getting my ass handed to me.

somehow it sounds more like you only choose the wrong defense style, becasue i dont rushed anything, even got some drawbacks by resources fall to zero and need a long time to raise again, and still my base stands and fend of the waves, mostly even without my personal help.

Never had a problem on normal difficulty with any wave.

So how are you dealing with the groups of 30 sludge monsters launching explosives at you from 4 screens away completely untouched because your couple of artillery turrets decide to attack the thousands of weak melee enemies? Oh and I only *just* got HQ level 3 so I only have level 1 towers available.

Run out there and beat them down with a hammer. Or use the flamethrower to mass exterminate the zerglings.

layered defense + personal intervention :)

TL:DR of my response boils down to "Git Gud"

Im currently at Day 102. It wasnt until I beat the game last night did I finally "Struggle" to survive. On each map, I spent quite a considerable time exploring, looting all the hidden geo-caches, investigating whatever those minable egg looking things are, and just exploring the map. And I want to stress: on EVERY map. I took my sweet sweet time amassing 20 hours into the game running around and having fun. I've completed all of the research entirely, and upgraded my rig. I can still solo probably 1 or 2 of the Horde entry points without help from any of my turrets. The enemies arent all that difficult to deal with and CERTAINLY are not any issue at HQ level 3. Either you are not constructing proper defenses, or doing so in such a way that leaves too much of your base exposed at once.

Diversity in this game is your friend. you wont get very far if you stick to one source of power, damage, or ammunition.

Side note, I do not believe *at all* that waves increase the longer time goes on. I believe it is directly tied to your HQ level. The game even mentions about there being more stronger attacks when you do.

1. They do not increase
2. If you rush, for example Titan, then you will find yourself and your main base DEAD as those lava region mobs , that are near imune to explosion damage, will spawn frequently.

So no, dont rush, keep ya time as you then outpower the waves as you have , most likely, railguns AND laser ready prior to them even being a thing! Energy is the only , mostly (90%), reliable damage type in the game. Most foes are hightly resistent against physical, explosion and heat, yet energy? You will at least do 50% dmg, wich is still enormus, against the most powerfull of foes. Shure there are energy resistent beings , yet they die first artilery wave. Would be nice to add things like kryo towers or accid ones so there would be at least some variety in lategame defenses (atm. its railgun, laser, normal, AS MUCH FRACKING ARTILERIE AS YOU CAN HANDLE AMMO WISE)

Is it so difficult to walk around with your robot and assassinate them from being? They are pretty vulnearible.

I found the best way was to rush unlock the cultivator and progress the metal questlines and STOP before doing the mining outpost missions. that way you have access to all the metals via cultivators and you can prepare yourself for the damn siege beasts

Thats funny given my turret composition is virtually the exact opposite. I have mostly T3 Guardian Sentries, Flamers, Rocket and a few artillery here and there.

I'm sitting on HQ level 6 and still only using Sentry Turrets, walls, and repair towers. Level 3 Sentry turrets are beasts. And Level 3 Walls with Level 2 repair towers are damn near indestructible. All of this is on Normal. But I don't just sit there and let my base defense fend for itself. I get out there and smash with my hammer and exterminate the zerglings with either my flamethrower or cryo sprayer. I've had some pretty massive waves and everything held without me needing to manually repair.

But you're definitely right about needing proper defense. You can't just slap down a couple turrets and leave it. You have to keep upgrading and adding to it. Double those walls up, triple or quad them if you feel like you need to. Spam some turrets at high activity points. And most of all, don't forget those repair towers so they'll keep the walls repaired.

From personal experience, I never felt that base defenses were able to stand on their own until very late game, certainly not HQ 3. You're going to rely more heavily on personal combat and treat the turrets as disposable delays. The idea of "full proper base" just does not work very well in this game until much later.

My strategy is moreso: Chokepoints. The AI seems to go for whatever is currently closest to their spawn locations. So I have small extrusions of defenses that stick out from my actual base. They seem to target those first, focusing on THE most heavily fortified part of my base, instead of the 1 tile thick wall with absolutely no defense towers about 30 or so blocks away.

Repair Towers certainly helped a lot, but I was not even aware of Shields until I attempted to open the Rift back home... Game changer. And the fact that they run off of plasma, which is the byproduct of the fusion reactors? Piece of cake.

Really? My experience was the opposite. I only went out to go help because... ya know... FUN! Its boring just sitting in your base waiting for timers to tick down, or materials to accrue. Plus if you arent there nearby, you dont get any of the resource drops or mods.
