planatary scanner

I am in the desert biome in the campaign and it tells me to use the planetary scanner to get back home. ok great. Where is that? How does one use a "planetary scanner?"

You travel to other maps with the orbital scanner menu which is to the left of the crafting menu or hotkey:Y

If you leave a map with all objectives completed on it and no outpost you will not be able to access the map again. The game will warn you about it and refund all built structures if you do this
