Purple Nests?
I played this game a while ago, before expansions, but replaying it now and I noticed there are some new purple nests. Are they related to expansions? Suffice to say, they obliterated me when I tried to activate them...the waves were stronger than what I recall at original end game

Yeah the higher rarity anomalies spawn much tougher attack groups than they used to, awhile back. Wait till you try a red one for the first time. :KentHappy:

What's the color order from easier to hardest? I remember back in the day, red ones were not too hard, I would put 3 mobile sentries and it was ok. Now, with the purple one, I could make an entire turret island nearby and it will still get obliterated... There's lots of crystal enemies I haven't seen before
theres one big purple anomaly related to the second DLC that will appear early in the story, that unleashes an end game level host on you, although it appears at around the point you first get towers and has NO warning about what it does! but the story does give you a que to poke it, dont till your near the end point.

also the anomalies got rebalanced and are way way tougher than they used to be , the game doesnt do anything to warn you or place them at points where you are of relative strength , so id just get used to saving before interacting and if you trigger something completely out of what with where you are just reload . you soon learn which is sensible and whats not.

The same as weapon tier.
(easiest) white, blue, purple, red (hardest).

Good to know haha, I was starting to get worried I became senile in the past 1-2 years since I last played it :D There should be a warning about difficulty if you barely have a level 3 HQ. For now I'll stay away from purple haha
You can probably do white ones early. You just need a little bit of research and weapons. I can do it will a combination of Grenade Launcher, spear, sword, machine gun, Emergency Explosion, and dash with that leaves a damage trail behind. Key is to stay moving and knowing who to shoot and who to blow up. Dash will help you escaped and kill off weak creatures. Emergency Explosion will help if you get trapped.

Managed to get the camouflage system (invisibility). That was a game changer - now I can just trigger them, stealth, let them all come together and unleash some skills :D
purple and red loot anomalies now mean for me that i poke them and than run for my biggest defense cluster. cant escape the screen full of enemys otherwise....

If you're poking them on a map without base defenses (e.g. recon or farming map), then I suggest getting Floating Mines (explosive weapon). Clear a path away from the bioanomaly and lay a trail of mines. For these pesky red/purple ones. I almost empty the whole magazine. Then poke it, withdraw along the mine trail in a backwards walk with minigun and plasma guns blazing.

Beware the ones in Acidic Biome will spawn Super Nurglax. These actually won't even bother to chase you. They can hurl their bombs from wherever they are and still hit you or your base. So annoying.
Alternatively, you can equip alien camouflage (L-shift ability) to cheese them.
Immediately go stealth after opening the loot. The horde will not chase after you in camouflage status. Then looking for the spawns and nuke them out. Camouflage has a cooldown of 3s, just remember to redo the stealth after each nuke shot.

This only works in maps without base. Otherwise the spawns will go after your base if you are in stealth.

That's what I just said above :D
problem is you are normaly around 5 secs short to open the purple and red anomalys before you start to get beaten, so camo is not an option (and i shoud know, because its my standard goto equipment)

Camouflage in this case is not for grab and run. Whenever in stealth the spawns will stay still and stop chasing you. So you can cheese them by taking them out one after one. Camouflage gives you time to repair and reload weapons, and reposition.
The loot is still taken after cleaning up all spawns.

You can just trigger it, no need to wait the full 15 seconds or whatever. Camo, fight, then go back and do the extraction. Bonus if you use the radar item so you can see where they come from before they get there.

Also, you can camo anytime, even in the middle of a fight. So you can do a lot of stealth maneuvers.

Do note that if the anomaly is close enough to your base or an outpost, cloaking will cause the stuff the anomaly spawned to go for your structures instead.
