As for RTX, it's disable in game and in my GPU config. I dont like RTX and it lower the FPS anyway.
Engine or cpu related, the game don't really limit what you can build so you eventually run into the limits of your hardware.
That slowdown you are experiencing is when the game logic gets below a certain threshold the game slows time to keep things playable.
the one thing you didn't mention in your spec is resolution however if you have rtx off and are not playing at 4k a 1080ti should be fine, most likely you are cpu bound.
The only thing you can do free up cpu resources, oc it or upgrade it but beware even the best cpu's still have limits.
I think I heard somewhere that drone buildings can be a problem if you build to many..
I don't think my CPU is the issue either. i play much more demanding games on ultra at 120+ FPS without issues.
I'm still pretty sure that its due to the Engine Limitation. I deleted half my mining base (Lower Half in the picture above), rebuild Walls and Defense Towers and the game still run slow even after enemy attacks wave.
Its just like StarCraft 2. At some points, there so much stuff going on that the Engine has to slow down the game otherwise it would just blow up xD
That's the sad part of most RTS games when you can go over the limits of what the Engine can handle.
I do not use Drone Tower, they are not that great. Prefer using Laser, Flamer, Minigun and Heavy Artillery Towers and Gravity Mines.
'much more demanding games' don't push the CPU like this one does with huge bases. There's just a lot of stuff for the game to process, visuals have nothing to do with it.
And yeah, no matter what your hardware is, you'll run into a limitation at some point with massive bases or massive enemy waves (not with default normal mode, but you can crank up wave sizes with custom difficulties). They could have had a building cap per map or something, but the devs chose to not do that and instead slow the sim speed down when things become too much, to keep the framerate manageable (so the game's UI is still responsive).
Cultivators/collectors also count when people talk about drones in terms of game performance.
(also, read my first post, all my graphic are at the minimum/lowest possible)
I sold the whole base and build 4 Mini Defensive Outpost at strategic location instead. That greatly reduced the amount of walls and turret i have on the map. i would say by a good 60%.
The only time my FPS suffer is during the attack waves since i play on Brutal and the amount of enemy that attack me is ridiculous lolll
It just sad that the game FPS suffer badly when building large base.
Your gpu is not the limiting factor at 1080p I can run max settings/no raytracing on a gtx 1080 and get 150/200fps in the gpu benchmark.
A1080ti is well above what is needed I recommend cranking up the visuals to max, you might even be able to run ray tracing with fidelity fx turned on with that card.
Looking at your base picture, I am a little surprised that your getting really bad slowdown although I guess maybe walling off some of the spawn points could cause the ai pathing to consume more cpu resources.
Might be worth posting your cpu benchmark score, then if someone else has the same or similar cpu they can tell you if your game is running optimally.
You can run it from the launcher.
