Maps disappear forever if not used?
There are 3 first recon maps (lava acid desert) with low threat. If you finish quest on them and teleport back without building on them, do they disappear forever and there are no other low threat maps? I though they just refresh (there was some message) but now they are gone, I wanted to build on them.

Yes.
You can cheat them back with console, but otherwise they are gone. This has no negative effect on campaign whatsoever. You can build anywhere else.

The recon areas are very low on resources, so there's no reason to stick around until you get to the "mining outpost" version.

Having at least one low-threat desert map is incredibly handy for placing solar+synthesizer farms, all of your storage, communication hubs, ammo factories, etc.

You want as many low-threat jungle biomes as possible. Cultivating plants gives you slow but infinite rare resources... at least if you want to stick around past the credits. If you complete the game normally, keeping extra maps around is unnecessary.

Medium threat maps are okay-ish. They still get raids, but the raids are relatively weak and only have enemies specific to that biome, so you can specialize your tower choice against them.

I assumed that if you did not place an outpost, the maps disappeared, and you got new choices.
Seems i was wrong.

People talk about wanting low threat areas for farming stuff, storage etc... but honestly, I never saw the need. It doesn't matter that it's low threat if you are never going back there anyway.

I guess you don't have to worry about setting up any defenses while you are building it... so that saves some small amount of set-up time, initially... but doesn't seem that important or useful to me. Part of the fun is setting up bases and outposts, including their defense.

EDIT: FWIW... I only put outposts in areas where the missions told me to, and I ended up with 6 outposts by the end of the game. That was more than enough for my outpost needs.

Eh. When you are away from a map, you don't get attacked.
But, when my rare element mines ran out, i went back to set up new ones, and then got attacked, and lots of stuff was destroyed.

Exactly, lol, the campaign was so easy not sure why people are carrying on about the need to game the system somehow. Resources are basically infinite even without abusing harvesters, massing harvesters for anything other than the few things that they are required for is basically just removing any and all challenge from the campaign, just turns it in to a map painter sim.
