They made a long thread explaining what happened. (Cant recall well but likely under their other game. Check out the game visit discussions there and search for Stygian:P)
Small studio, ran out of money, did not sell as much as hoped.
It is one of those games that was a cult classic when it came out, but did not get enough recognition. A lot of years later it got a lot of more attention, when they could not really do much about it, elevating it to its true cult classic sense with both the good and bad it brings.
I would say it is still a good game for like 90% of the story progressions (here and there some annoying bugs) but you still get more experience of it than many of the since then released games.
edit: likely the publisher also could not as to say finance them longer. Just one of those times when a game starts off too early. If they started the development a year or two later, they would have easily gotten the attention and the money. Just bad luck i would say.
Everybody knew that already, what i want to know is why to try to push this "Stigyan" franshise up before finish the first messy one?
It is indeed a good game, but a frustrating one
Not our problem as consumers. People keep trying to make people who buy a game to 'understand' the publishers' side when this is NOT suppose to be our problem. If I paid for my food and got food poisoning because of it, I don't have o 'understand' that the restaurant is going through hard days and had bad luck at the opening.
They could at least do a new game with the same genre of top-down RPG. The new one looks generic as f... and it's another bad loking survival as hundreds we see all the time at Steam.
Well i misunderstood your answer then.
Stygian now has a fan base. Is quite known so capitalizing on it is the normal thing to do.
(Scream 6?:D)
Generic as f...-> most of the games are like that these days. Minimal risk decent profit.
They are not willing to take risks most likely.
Regarding what they make as a game out of Stygian, you also have no right to make demands. You can max suggest. Elsewise you have the option to buy it or not buy it and to write a review or not.
Oh, don't worry. I'm tired of "making demands" and don't be listened in the last 5 years or so. That is another publisher that I'll no buy anyhing at all in he future. BTW, many studios and publishers are dying due the old "don't like, don't buy it" stunt.
Fine by me. Looks like they are not in need of any more consumers, eh?
Dunno i enjoyed Stygian, even in its botched end way.
So depending how the new one is i might give it a try, though my backlog is terribleXD
About the boycotting certain studios, yep doing as well. Havent bought a single game from Bioware since ME3. (It was very noticeable that after doing the geth quarian quest, on Rancor, a huge drop happened in basicly every aspect of the game.)
I have quite a few of the bigger publishers on my list from whom i do not buy.
Is why i am playing mostly smaller and indie studio games. They dare to risk and quite often put out interesting games, sometimes the graphic could be better, but their stories and gameplay are usually a lot more interesting.
