Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones

Spoiler (Ending Question?)
I am very confused by that ending. I absolutely loved what they did with the Asylum and I really enjoyed that. However, once I traveled by the pyramid back to "Arkham", it said that my character was devoid of sanity and humanity, and then there was that blob who fell out near the university and then turned into a big blob with tentacles etc.

Umm. Was that supposed to be my character? If yes, why did it then go on to mention the quest for the necronomicon? I would think that being turned into a giant starfish would somehow make one not care about a weird book.

Or was that supposed to be after? Or was the blob something unrelated to the player character?

Since it's Lovecraftian, it's open to interpretation - my two are - 1. the Dismal Man is simply Universal Chaos and out of his sheer sadism turned you into the mutant for his amusement 2. the hunt of the forbidden book turned you into a mutant.

But either way, the devs admitted the ending was rushed, so I wouldn't put *too* much stock into it for now.

Yeah, I mean the way it was presented I felt that the mutant/abomination was my character and it was the result of the pyramid travel, however why then would it make the big deal out of finding the Necronomicon?
Think of the ending as like a 'preview' for what it is to come in future instalments, like you might get between seasons of a TV show. It provides some suggestions for what will happen. From the ending we can infer that a) the Dismal Man had a plan in mind in getting you to go to Miskatonic University b) it looks like whatever happens there unleashes Cthulhu and c) the Necronomicon has some as yet unknown role in stopping the Dismal Man's plans. Also, while your character might be distorted by his or her journeys, that doesn't mean that their mind is necessarily warped.

AFAIK Cthulhu has already been unleashed and is just walking around Arkham, as seen in that quest where you go up the hotel
Keep in mind he might not actually be walking about yet. The Old Gods are all telepathic, causing outbreaks of madness and so forth without necessarily being freed.

I'm inclined to view 'the miracle' as more narrative foreshadowing of his eventual release.

It's not so much freeing the Great Old Ones or Outer Gods we have to worry about so much as it is drawing their attention-- Cthulhu isn't bound, he's sleeping. So maybe less 'release' and more 'awaken'?

And I suppose the person who was mutated by the Necronomicon, if that is indeed the reason why the University is in ruins, could've happened before we arrived on the scene. Maybe they were the cause of the Black Day, and the reason we're all stuck in Arkham.

Or not. Just idle speculation.

I always felt, even when playing the demo, that the university was destroyed by Herbert West

The mutated character that you see inside the university ruins is not the PC but one of the unlucky inhabitants of the ruined building and the game ends teasing that the dreaded book Necronomicon is awaiting you below the University. And the last word that was spoken by the melt man is: "Tekeli!"

Ah, so Danforth just lost his compass then? I totally missed that. And having a shoggoth beneath the university might make sense. Thank you for clearing that up! :)
Just a thought: is Dismal Man really the Nyarlathotep?

That would be my guess.

It seemed that way but I wondered if it was too obvious. Everything after the black lips in the Witch House, though?

Im just really happy that its a Shoggoth at the end and not the PC. Tekelili is also what Danforth hears at the end of At the Mountains of Madness.

Its always been my guess that the Dismal Man is Nyarlathotep.

Also, I didnt actually meet Wax Face. Can you do that in the game?
Game fills cut a bit.

2 places to use lantern, one of them is 10 second long.

Maximum level for skills is 10, which you dont need - and "limited" 7 lvl skill is enough. Few options to use skills after some point of game. Few outdoor locations and small ones, etc.

I've heard you can rush the front doors of the Blackened Club, haven't done it yet myself. You'll have to fight your way in.
