Combat Difficulty
So I made an ocult investigator, decent in fire arms, decent combat stats, got the free companion right before the bank, but i'm getting my teeth kicked in by a handful of lunatics. I've had alot of exp with tactical turn based games. But this just seems unreasonably hard. I'm using cover, using extra AP to raise def, using ammo, using magical abilities.... Is it just me?

I wouldn't say no to rebalancing those encounters so that they're weaker but there are even more of then, but still, they're only the first enemies of the game and half the time they miss or fall into despair or attack each other.

No, it's definitely meant to be pretty brutal. Do you have both Eduardo and the Outsider? You might also be able to pick up another companion if you've spoken to Mrs. Carter in French Hill.

Or travel back and forth from the distillery might get you a nice heavy-combat focused ally that is hard to kill. yup, not gonna spoil it.

I absolutely get that some things in the mythos are supposed to be unfathomable let alone unbeatable. But just a handful of lunitics doing twice as much damage with a brick than my revolver can do is... Kinda not fun or immersive.

I beat all the ghouls without a lantern, and had no ammo, and 0 Melee skill on my main, I also had Sonia who isn't exactly a sharpshooter or cqb specialist in the dark

Out of all the rpgs I've played recently this has been the least difficult

Lunatics literally posed no danger to me, make sure you take the Italian, his worth far outweighs the 20 cigs you spend a day on him, he has infinite ammo, and 70 health, can melee as well

Lunatics is really random in difficulty. Sometimes they'll just waltz around and do nothing. Sometimes they will hit each other. And then you get them spamming that sanity attack and your whole team is 30 sanity down.
Sometimes enemies get really lucky and crit a LOT.

What about the Sleeper beneath? aka. an encounter you MUST deal with? that is an unfair battle on a game-based level with how much ♥♥♥♥ you get drowned in without a chance to do anything about it.

Encounters are mostly not that hard if you dabble in tactics, but they tend to jump up and down in difficulty. For example, Blasted Street is cakewalk if you took enough brandy, but Sleeper battle is BRUTAL (and afaik the only battle in the game you can't skip with escape mechanic, which is really stupid). On the other hand, ghouls are nasty but their boss is one of the easiest fights in game.

Game just can't decide how difficult it wants to be.

aye but for some reason the ai focuses on your char and if they go down it's game over, stupid design
