Dev says its a Strength + Melee skillcheck with crowbar ... not so sure what that means exactly but i guess some of my skills aren't high enough to pry the crate open ...
lol "utter god", dunno why but this made me chuckle :D
I mean you're not wrong, defo seems like the PC has to be a jack of all trades, but at the same time if you try and do that, the game will reck you for it.
And all the while your companions just sit buy the camp fire playing the banjo and reading books for research, with a vacant expression on their face...
So if you built an occultist for example, with terrible physical strength....there is no point to ever putting anything into melee. What might take a strong character 1 point in melee to crack open might take a weakling 3, 4, or even 5 points. Similarly if you are a strong character with weak will there is no point to ever taking occult....those occult tests in the world are not straight occult, they’re will + occult.
The game could and should do a much better job telling players the under the hood mechanics. It’s super easy to build a useless gimp character, especially with only 2 skill points per level. Splash anything around into “secondary” skills where the linked attribute is low and those points are completely wasted. It’s not like D&D where you roll a die and add your bonus to it, meaning no point is wasted (few % more to chance of success), it’s just a total waste if you can’t reach the magic number (which you never can with a low attribute).
It’s further hampered by not being shown what the required skill check is, or even if there IS one. The only way to know why you can’t open a sealed container is if you read a dev response telling you why, because the game has ♥♥♥♥ all feedback.
Mystery in the story is great, mystery in the mechanics is just plain terrible.
Seems like there should be an option for PCs to earn three skill points per level, or maybe improve their stats every few levels (like Fallout, ahem) to deal with this problem.
Can we not just increase stats when we level up ?
Oh I assumed that you would get points to spend on attributes and skills as you level up.
I dunno, I haven't leveled yet, most of the game for me so far has just been dialog lol, haven't even seen combat yet lol. But then again i've only had a couple of hours or so to play over they past few days.
that one wont be making any more trouble!
same with lockpicking or crafting ... you need to spend level up points on certain skills to be able to do stuff!
