None of the pirate's answers are right??

So I've done all of the investigation listed in the quest for the Arkham stabber. Everything is checked off, and my journal says I'm ready to confront the shadowy pirates in the house.
Except no matter what I do, my answer for the final question is ALWAYS wrong. It's not the indian or the magician, and that gave me two other options, both of which I tried. am I missing something? I read the folklore book and witnessed the irishman get stabbed to death, so I don't know what else I'm missing!

The murder weapon is pirate's cutlass, the name of murder is "i don't know". I think the answer doesn't show up if you missed reading the journal entry. Terrible old man is one of the answer too.

yea i have same issue but i fail first question no matter what i choose, but again all my journal entries are crossed off, maybe i missed something?

SPOILERS FOR THIS QUEST:
There is an item called Kingsport Folk Tales. You have to click through that item's possibilities until you get to the one that speaks of the Terrible Old Man (Which is the proper name.) But you have to see this tale in-game to get the name. Else the name won't be listed.

Well, if the journal entries are all checked off, that should mean you have completed everything you need to solve this riddle. Having to find this book and read it should be a requirement of the quest, and the journal shouldn't show you've done everything you need until you have read it.

See here's the thing. I did that and I got the name, But the answer still doesn;'t work?

In order to successfully complete the quest, you need to do the following: Talk the private eye, talk to Horatio, come across Keelan in the world map, get Julian's note from Room 303, visit the Post office (not visitable until then), read Kingsport tales, -possibly optional but visit the Indians and kill them/speak to the Shaman

i had the same problem. thats what i did: reading the folks tales book while i was in arkham didn't help. so i went to the pirate mansion and read it again there, got a message that the journal was updated and managed to finish the quest.

Is there a way to get the note from 303 without having the mob come after you? I'm a measly academic, I can't drink him under the table...

Ehm, I think you are not talking about the actual last question, but rather the question before that. The answer to that one is just telling the truth ;-) I hope that helps enough.

If you did literally all of that then the only thing I didn't mention (because I didn't complete it) would be to help Horatio find his way into the Blackened. You might be bugged out though, because after doing all of that I had no problems answering the Qs - Kingsport, the names of the 4 dead, pirate cutlasses, retribution for stolen gold, don't know his name, Terrible Old Man.

EDIT: the documents I needed to read, for people's information - Julian's crumpled note, Julian's unsent letter, Kingsport Fairy Tales, the documents from the private eye.

Also, when you're in Horatio's room, check his window, it lets you know he is lying.
