From 2019 up until the end of 2023, The Just As Planned DLC guaranteed access to ALL current AND future content. It was a one-and-done deal, the ideal buying model for consumers. Until eventually, the game revenue and music licensing costs were becoming unbalanced, and PeroPero was poised to start losing money by keeping the game and DLC available for purchase. It was announced that Just as Planned would be discontinued at the end of October 2023, and replaced by Muse Plus.
Muse Plus originally was only slightly different: It included the vast majority of songs, just like Just As Planned, the ONLY exceptions being the vocaloid DLCs that were available up until September this year. Muse Plus owners would need to pay an additional $7.99 for each of the two vocaloid DLCs. Anyone who purchased Just as Planned before it was discontinued would not have to pay for these new DLCs, they would automatically gain access to them as soon as they released.
This business model was originally planned to last indefinitely; the [Endless Pirouette] pack that introduced Mechanical Ballerina Marija and 10 new songs was originally going to cost Muse Plus owners an additional $7.99, but for reasons unknown, possibly due to confusion on the difference in DLCS in the community, PeroPero made it free for Muse Plus owners, and made a statement confirming that Muse Plus will behave as Just As Planned did for all future content from this point forward.
That’s where we are today: Muse Plus missed out on free [Miku in Museland] and [Rin-Len’s Mirrorland], but otherwise is identical to Just as Planned.
Common misconception: [MSR Anthology] (The arknights collab) was not Just as Planned exclusive, and was free for all Muse Plus owners who purchased the DLC before February 2024. It’s availability ended due to a contract with MSR allowing sale of their content expiring, meaning if Just as Planned had never been discontinued, there could have been players who owned Just as Planned without access to all content in the game, assuming they purchased the DLC after the contract expired.
[Miku in Museland] - Cut off date: September 27th, 2024 (Required additional purchase from Muse Plus owners).
[Rin-Len's Mirrorland] - Cut off date: September 27th, 2024 (Required additional purchase from Muse Plus owners).
This totals to 28 songs, 3 playable characters, and 1 elfin that aren't available to anyone who's picking up the game for the first time today. Muse Dash and PeroPero have never deliberately imposed limited-time/FOMO content, some collabs are just limited by contracts, and there's nothing they can do once the agreed upon collab date ends.
[NeonAbyss] - Cut off date: July 17th, 2026
Any content you own prior to expiration dates will be kept even after the content expires. The expiry date only affects players who have not yet purchased the content, by making it impossible to obtain.
Territory Battles - TUYU [Song] (Removed at the request of CHUNITHM, who gave Muse Dash the song in a collaboration. Their reasoning was for drama regarding the criminal record of one of the artists).
I returned to the game after a very long pause, and I saw a lot of changes, even with the in-game menus, and was a bit lost.
But your post made me understand things a bit better.
So, since I own the Just as Planned DLC, I own all content (even the time-limited packs that were released since I last played the game), and haven't missed anything, right?
I assume I don't have to log-in during a certain period, or manually claim any content, it's just automatically added, I hope?
Last time I played, there were no time-limited packs, nor I remember seeing DLC in-game menus. There was the main game, and then the Just as Planned DLC to get everything else, so all these changes makes it seem like it's a whole different game.
You can verify this by checking your character selection menu, going alll the way to the right, and seeing if your last 3 characters are Amiya, Miku and Rin & Len. These characters are only visible if you own them and happen to coincide with the 3 expired song packs.
If it seems like you’re missing any content, playing any song should restore it.
I have Amiya, Hatsune Miku, and Kagamine Rin & Len, so I guess I'm fine. :)
But I dont know if they reverted it bcs. of backlash or not enough sales of the dlc's...
Either way it was already kind of confusing that someone would buy a game that has a "lifetime DLC" where they couldnt make more money with it...
This will likely be irrelevant in the next update, which is a 2nd Arknights collab. Anyone who missed the content will probably be able to get it later this month if it's included in the new contract with MSR.
