As to why? It's likely tied to a separate controversy that some of the Hololive talents were involved in months back, regarding an accidental mention of "Taiwan" on a YouTube stream, while reading the YouTube Analytics for where people were watching their stream from. And well, because of the whole "Taiwan vs China" political issue, it upset a large number of Chinese viewers and got a lot of 'antis' from China in those streamer's chat posting spam, threats, cancel culture nonsense and more (This issue is still on-going).
Ironically: YouTube is blocked in China by local government laws. So the people in China are using VPNs to funnel through their nearest server---Taiwan. So those mainland China viewers were the ones appearing as "Taiwan" in Youtube analytics.

Mid-stream afterthought: Found this link while typing up my reply, which has a later statement from XD Network:
https://nuitetoilenews.tumblr.com/post/634066529412104192/china-bans-hololive-from-broadcasting-muse-dash
So yeah, the whole "National unity" and "Protecting the homeland" stance that, rather they agree with it or not, with XD Network and PeroPero Games being Chinese-based companies, are bound to abide by for risk of losing their livelihood at the hand of Chinese law. And if not directly, there's a mob of people who do nothing but look for things to report and 'reign in' any entity that tries to skirt the line. It sucks balls, but well...That's kind of China for you...Shame so many talented developers are crippled by their homeland.
I personally dislike nationalism its stupid as f, but you know what's worse? Backstabbing into a community who have gave you so much support when you just started <3. Not everything is about nationalism Imao peropero game is only a content creator that puts their game on steam Imao which isn't even monitored by the chinese govenment. Therefore, why would you give streaming rights to a company that backstabbed most of your gamer community probably even the content creators themselves<3.

If you don't understand sir, there are stuff that you can't trade with money<3.
What is this ""backstab"" you're talking about? When did anyone at Hololive express an opinion about chinese government and nationalism? Why are you making things up?
The only thing they have done was mentioning Taiwan once during a stream and everyone overreacted the same way you're doing right now.

If you really think THAT'S what happened, you need to actually go back and look at what happened. The entire controversy was literally just that Coco talked about her Youtube analytics on stream, and showed something showing where her viewers watched from, and made an observation that a lot of people were watching from taiwan, which is what YOUTUBE called it in the information regardless. This literally happened because Coco said Taiwan ONCE on a stream, for which she was banned from streaming for two weeks, and an entire formal apology was given by Cover Corp., though nothing wrong was done. If uttering a single word is considered backstabbing to you, i worry that people walk on eggshells around you 24/7....
Saying the word "Taiwan" is 'backstabbing the chinese community'? Hey guys, I found the Chinese Nationalist.
So, I can understand why they don't let Hololive stream the game anymore really. It is just that bad, China indoctrinating its citizen to be Nationalistic is good and all but when Radicalism and Extremism gets into the mix, it tends to crush innovation and creativity as well as arts since Extreme nationalism would go all "You're not nationalistic!", "Your art sucks since it doesn't represent China well!", "How dare you create things that is not nationalistic!", "How dare the game depict something other than China!", etc. The fact that China also has their own set of factions that go undercover to report potentially "Subversive Activities" to the government doesn't help game companies who wants to create things that is more "Radical" in nature. If any game companies made a slip up then those factions can create a momentum by appealing to the nationalistic citizens that this company is depicting China poorly and then have them complain to the government to have it shut down, but with radicalism, they can end up getting their company set on fire, sent death threat, or mobbed. Seriously scary stuff. In order to protect themselves, such extreme measures must be taken too
