Load times aren't bad, joycon can take a tad to get used to if you normally use an Xbone controller or similar on PC, but it's sufficient enough.
There is no $3 starter edition + expensive upgrade, it's everything in one single purchase.
Difficulty 11 on Freedom Dive can be accessed by drawing a circle three times on the touch screen while un-docked, but I've no idea how to do this while the system is docked.
I've checked it out with visuals set to each "more" and "less" and I haven't noticed any particular issues that need mention. Pretty much the same as the PC version, but about a month or so behind in updates unfortunately.
Just a heads up when starting the game for the first time if you're wearing headphones, the max music volume on Muse Dash a A LOT louder than other games on the system. I wish Project Diva was this loud.
However, in the Steam Library, I can remap some of my controller inputs to control the mouse without giving up any Xbox bindings.
