Optimum controls advice?
This is a question for people who are getting S-tier scores in Master. I am currently on the level of getting S in Hard difficulty but in Master I get like a D or C. The control scheme I use is Q and W for top hits, and O and P for low hits. What control scheme do experts like you use? I need something that makes it more easy for my fingers when there are a gajillion things to hit on the screen at once, which is what happens in master mode. And I think the control scheme we choose should also make it easy to hit those top+bottom simultaneous hits while in the midst of doing normal hits. Mine sucks for that.

I mean there are videos of a guy full clearing the hardest levels with one hand so I don't think it matters so much which key you use as long as you are using 4 fingers. I think your controls are less important than just being able to hit notes reliably starting with either finger. You should be able to start double, triple, etc strings of notes with either finger so when you get the complicated patterns you don't get confused.

I use 4 fingers primarily, but my setup is: Top buttons "A,S,D,O" and for bottom: "K,L,;(semicolon) ,W". One of the most important things I'd say, is mapping your buttons in a way that you can easily access both bottom and top notes easily and reliably with a single hand. And while changing your button layout can help you, it's not the only determining factor. And if you get overwhelmed in any level, you can always watch a video so that you can slow it down, and pinpoint any section that is giving you trouble.

Ok looks like my setup was bad since I cannot do bottom and top with the same hand like you are suggesting. Will remap. And yeah I get confused sometimes when there are LONG strings. I end up mashing because I cannot count precisely how many are there in a long string (5+) at high speed

People who do well on master with just one hand must have some god level dexterity

I'm by no means a 100% clear rate expert, but I can at least beat and generally S-Rank majority of songs now (Sans a couple 10/11 difficulty ones).

Personally, I use: ASDF for highs and JKL; for lows. Space for FEVER

Four possible buttons each, one hand dedicated per lane. It clears up a lot of my brain dumb-dumbing of trying to rapid-press different fingers on the same hand for high/low hits. Left hand is highs, right is lows. 4 fingers for each and can generally rapid press 2 keys fast enough for most songs.

OH you use manual fever mode. I never thought of doing that.
I guess it is useful for optimizing the score, but right now I am just trying to focus on hitting all the prompts without missing.

Sorry for late reply. But I actually use Manual FEVER more because the visual 'disturbance' at unexpected times tends to throw me off mid-combo and was causing me to miss notes, moreso than shooting for a high score.

If I can activate Fever manually, I can anticipate the visual change and target it right before a batch of notes, instead of midstream when it tends to cause me to miss a beat or ten. lol
