Muse Dash
Is there a story?
Brand new player, just started playing it today. Looks like a fun gameplay mechanism (seemed a little too easy until I found the difficulty settings for the songs), but it feels weird that so far all I'm getting is quick access to the game and the levels in the various songs, but I'm not really getting a sense that there's much progression beyond "do the levels, level up, get new songs".

And, like... is there more than that that I'm just not finding yet? It's okay if that's all there is, there's something to be said for rapid engagement and getting right into the action, but I sort of expected a "story mode" or something to go along with the rhythm game to clue me in more on who these girls are and why they're fighting these fairy tale creatures.

I'm more used to story and rhythm games that have at least a simplistic story, I think. Elite Beat Agents and Crypt of the Necrodancer come to mind, though I admit I've not played Guitar Hero, and I always had the impression that Guitar Hero didn't have a story beyond "Rise to rock stardom" so I guess that fits.

In any event, thanks! I think I'll seek a refund, but it was a fun game to visit.

If I may make a few suggestions on rhythm/music games with stories:

This last one is a bit lighter on narrative, but there is narrative progression. Note: you do have to provide your own music.
