If you looked at games published by X.D. Network Games, it seems they typically don't have cards implemented (and subsequent things such as badges and wallpapers which are used as card rewards). So it could possibly be never.

From my experience, Steam trading cards drop immediately if you've already played the required amount of time before they became available. So I don't see why you need to hold yourself back.

Could somebody show how the first badge "newbie" looks like? I wanna complete the card set now that they added them but i'm not sure if it's worth the money

me too, I guess they're still seeing the cards and badges in general, and in wallpapers, emoticons and stuff they're seeing the rarity.
