Do I need to install the "test server"?

I just bought the game and noticed there was a test server downloading in addition to the game. Is there a reason to install the test server?

Currently the test servers are down. They will announce when they are online with new patches/hotfixes to test. Check the official twitter feed and/or join their official discord channel[discord.gg].

usually they do test the updates on test servers before they go on the live servers.

That's exactly what the test servers are for - to test the patches (and potentially fix them if needed) before they go to the main servers.

They aren't always online, only when a new patch comes out. Also, the accounts on test servers aren't linked to the accounts on live servers, so you can try out new weapons and hunters on test server without worry :)
