The best game in the series is hands down Leisure Suit Larry 7. Design is tight, artwork is beautiful, animation is great, characters are likeable, jokes are on point, easter eggs are sexy, soundtrack is catchy, and the combination of point-and-click and parser interface is the best I've ever seen in an adventure game. The game is 20 years old this year and still looks and plays fantastic.

It's going to take a hell of a lot to beat Larry 7. It had a 50 million dollar budget. It shows in its production values.

definitely.

everything about the the 7th has been the best since it came it out. i still have the CD.

the jokes, artwork, gameplay, sound and music, easter eggs, length of game, the consistency with the gameplay value within the length of the game (such as the pace never feels too slow or too fast, so its never boring) and everything else that didnt come to mind easily makes Love for Sail the best Lesuire Suit Larry game.

wow 50 million dollar budget???!!! and back then???!!! thats incredible, i never knew that. its definitely not a suprise then as to how well refined it is.

hahaha i have the jazz music stuck in my head now. and the wheres d!ldo theme is so funny too.

Glad you enjoyed Larry 7 as much as I did! I have a lot of fond memories with that game.

Crazy to think some games had this kind of budget in the mid 90's, right? I don't think the game's budget is mentioned very often. It's one of those things I heard in passing years ago from a former Sierra employee and later confirmed by Al during conversation. $50 million in 1996 would be about $80 million adjusted for inflation; not far of what it cost to make Metal Gear Solid 4 ($81 million), Skyrim ($92 million), or GTA4 ($100 million).

Hell, I'll give 7 a shot. :steamhappy:

Are the puzzles annoyingly difficult? I'm sure there are plenty of FAQ/Walkthroughs...

Not at all. However, there is a mini-game called strip liar's dice which can be a bit confusing if you're not familiar with how to play liar's dice. It's not too bad, though. There are instructions in the game if you need help.

Hope you enjoy!

i was about to say the same thing. the strip liars dice is probably the most difficult and tedious part of the game due to it essentially being gambling so there is a little skill and luck, though its really not that bad.

there is also a very simple cheat, if there is even such thing as cheating in this game, where you can uncover the opponents cup by holding Alt and dragging the cup with your mouse, if you are really struggling. Ive played the game like 20 times and i even used the cheat well more than once.

I love LSL 7. I have played it so many times over the years. I first bought it when I was 14 and I still have the disc and box for the game. The art was great and i loved listening to all the conversations, all the narration and so on. Finding the easter eggs was great and even 14 year old me put my picture in the game which showed up near the end . How awesome was that?

I can't really say. I've played all of them since 1, the one you had to actually type and the other one too. I loved them all so much that I can't choose.

In saying that, as Wolvescreek says, the last few were HORRIBLE. The one at the university was 'ok' but it still wasn't LSL, the last 2, one on a film set and the other I can't remember we're the worst steaming terds ever.

Other than that they all have fond memories.

Leisure Suit Larry 4 was especially good! ;)

Let me ask you LSL fans this? What section do you remember getting stuck on ? For me, I couldnt for the life of me figure out how in LSL 7 to open the door with all the lazers and so on protecting it...... When i finally had to read a guide to find out.... I felt so stupid.

hahaha i think you literally just walk through it.

yeah i looked it up, "Ignore the lasers and security gadgets and walk up to the security door. Click on it then choose other and type push."

most things in the game are literally just type push.

oh nvm, i just read your comment all the way to the end. yeah thats pretty funny though.

liars dice or where you gotta make the food for the taste contest. the beaver cheese or something with lsd.

No one talks about it because that number is clearly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. $50 million would have made it the most expensive game ever at the time, by a large margin. And for contrast, also the biggest commercial failure. For comparison, Phantasmagoria ended up way overbudget at $4.5million and that was made in 2 years with hundreds of people working on it. Their net income for that year was $12 million. They could not possibly afford having such a huge budget for a game that would never stand a chance of coming close to breaking even. It would have been the end of Sierra.

*shrugs* Feel free to email Al and ask him yourself. He's friendly.

I'm going to say the series peaked with "7" even if it got panned when it first came out. Sadly we will never see the Space Quest "Lust In Space" crossover sequel. *THAT* said I do suggest playing 6 first if for no other reason than it makes the beginning of 7 a lot more fun especially given the changes in Shamara. :)
