My Criticisms with Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don't Dry
From the review I made for Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don't Dry, where I say everything I love about the game (especially the music, dialog and voice acting... Most notably the use of Jan Rabson's Vocal Talents to voice Larry Laffer), I've decided to put the criticisms portion of that review here so that CrazyBunch and Assemble Entertainment can read them and hopefully take them to heart for what I hope will be future Leisure Suit Larry games that they'll make.

1.) Larry never really gets the girl in the way he intended after completing a date with them, but instead ends up in some awkward, embarrassing situation until the final girl, similar to how these games played in the original Sierra On-Line Trilogy, and believe me... That trope got pretty tired and sad, fast; I would have preferred gameplay similar to Leisure Suit Larry 7: Love For Sail, where there's a good mix of times where he does and doesn't get the girl at the end of completing a string of puzzles, but there's still an ultimate objective.

2.) CrazyBunch and Assemble Entertainment really had a chance to widen the sex appeal of Leisure Suit Larry with the whole 21st Century thing by introducing Larry Laffer to truly being bisexual over the game, but instead they take that chance with D**k Ryder and make a very long-winded joke about it that takes up at least half of the game... The player even has to click through several "are you sure you want to do this?" moments during the joke, and still get the same ending.

Regarding D Ryder, it was never intended to be a "joke" storyline and we do not see that it is like this. The idea behind it is that we wanted to show that Larry is just a fine and helpful guy (in his own way). Of course he is trying to have sex with ladies but he is also helping Ryder (argh, i can't write D i c k without getting censored) and Lance to find to each other. Again on his own way with his own kind of humour (he is an 80s guy) but with the best intention.

On being gay or bisexual... I refer to several threads... They didn't change his 'sexuality' because its canon that he is not gay or into men. They don't want to change the personality that Al Lowe created for the character years ago.
And a quote

Yeah, I get this... Really. I just don't think this'd massively be going against the character Al Lowe created because of the fact that times had changed since Leisure Suit Larry was being made at Sierra On-Line, and that the times Larry had interactions with males, it was forced upon him as part of a joke such as Shabli in Leisure Suit Larry 6: Shape Up or Slip Out. I'd like to see the character develop towards bisexual in future games based on player choice, is all I'm saying.

This is the same Larry, who hasn't changed with the past (he is from the 1980s stuck in the 1970s mindset)... Why would he 'change' because time changed around him? People don't really 'change' sexuality, despite the people who argue 'sexualfluidity'... It doesn't make sense from the story perspective though. At least this time he hasn't been 'r*ped'....

You say that but the final scene with Nari is as close to Larry getting raped as you can get and still be funny.

♥♥♥♥ off with your bisexual bs idiot.

someone's obviously never played the passionate patti sequel if he seriously thinks that point #1 is going to stand, you spend half of that game doing the exact inverse of the status quo.

plus, i feel like a lot of the earlier stuff is meant metaphorically because larry isn't really sure what he's about at all yet except sex, preferably with a woman involved, he really never develops much of an identity that's actually one he doesn't carelessly discard later.

i think by the end of the third game he stops caring about figuring out which clique he fits in with or how you want to say it and just goes all about the sex, any way any how.

additionally even in the absolutely atrocious things we've been having to call games lately like magna ♥♥♥ laude the entire plot device is upended as we're not even playing larry, but his son at that point, or was it nephew? oh who gives a ♥♥♥♥, that game was rubbish!

Nephew... interestingly WDDD makes reference to his nephew at least twice.

Rather apt that the police officer thought in a confused moment he was there to arrest Larry Lovage. Lovage is more likely to cause a public disturbance than Laffer.

Hah hah

Whenever Larry caused public disturbances in the earlier games and was arrested, it always lead to game overs.

The 2nd game doesn't count because those were KGB agents looking to torture him and perhaps kill him just for carrying something he doesn't know he is supposed to have.

I was referring to the first game it has police.

Oh, those funny flashy graphics around his crotch area after he's been to see the hooker. I'd forgotten about that.
