Even if you spent your points on a different upgrade.
It also doesn't allude to that condition until you talk to the merchant ( I forget if it was one of the subject options, or if you need to keep trying to open the cabinet ((the phrase you're looking for is something along the lines of "just hurry up and buy your health upgrade already and get moving")))
The first time you enter the shop and interact with the shopkeeper, you are never forced to buy an upgrade. That flavor text about buying a health upgrade is a joke. It's possible that pressing 6 on your keyboard locked you into the "buy upgrades" screen until you confirmed a choice, which closed the debug dialogue box at the same time.
I want you to note that before I bought the health upgrade the door was regular, but when I finally bought it after everything else, I could visually see a portal open in the doorway upon doing so.
also, I was pressing TAB I think to get the return to timeline prompt. it wasnt 6 though. I would go back and see what key I was using but I'm to lazy to do all that.
For some reason in my test, buying an upgrade does not fix this glitch, but restarting the game does. What you said is strange because reloading a save file would take you outside the shop. Reloading the save file would never place you back inside the shop.
Either way, being unable to leave the shop is caused by activating that debug dialogue box using the 6 key. The 6 key is standard but could differ for you for whatever reason, like if it's a non-American keyboard.
I was able to buy whatever i wanted but the first time i was actually able to get out of the dang menu the door wasn't working. so i had to exit game and reload to get it working. IDK if this was because i did that "return to your own timeline" thing or not.
