When you activate "chat typing" ( T or Enter normally) ... then write first " / " (backslash)

..so names of "real player" will appear above.

Works to see all complete or do same in battle for example during preparing screen.

Had same trouble 2 days ago ... names are not sure therefore.

All good pirates put a title on so you can tell;)

I had thought that bots had grey health and also the game announces when someone takes out another player

There are announces also when Bots kill each other. Either people show up at warmup-phase before the actual start, or use the chat-trick and type a / in chat during game and it will show all players in the lobby to whisper to.

Also, if a ship has a title underneath the name, its a player. And when you're in the lobby waiting that the game starts, all boats in there are human players. Remember the names

when you go into pregame all real players are listed as enemy. Hit tab to check. If your alone in tab its all bots, if you hit tab and theres more than you there real players

also in pregame if enemy top left is zero then all bots
only real players in pregame will come up enemy

"xxxpornstache420xxx" isn't a bot.
IMO the devs should put an icon or something on the bot players to make them easier to identify, but I think they don't on purpose so noobs don't immediately recognize that all the players they just slaughtered weren't real players at all, and will feel good about themselves and continue playing. It worked on me, anyways. :B1:

Before the match starts you can hold tab and look at the scoreboard to see the names of *real* players - but sometimes there will be a couple actual players thrown in at the last second and you may miss them that way.

You can also check if the ship has a title, which means it's a player - but some clever players will purposely *not* use a title so that way you will think that they are a bot then and hit you with a surprise attack.

After a while though, you will just sorta learn to recognize the bot player names.

Maybe a sex-bot.
