Working Multiplayer For RailRoad Tycoon 2 !!!
I got it working using a vpn game program called Evolve. It's like hamachi but thi actually worked. https://www.evolvehq.com/ Go there, get the client and register. The run the program make a party room and invite your friends to it. Once all are in the party room all can launch the game. You shoud see a 10. IP in multiplayer screen meaning its working. Host can setup a game and all ahould be able to see the game in the list without putting in the ip just refresh until it shows up. Already tested on a couple of 5-6hr long games and no problems at all.

Sounds great, thank you. I might try this later.

After trying everything we could think of and find, friend and I still could not get multiplayer to work. We see the correct IP (same as hamachi) but still cannot connect (It silently fails after a 30-second wait). Not sure what we're doing wrong.

make sure your ports are open on TCP/UDP 7242(use port forwarding if needed) and that your programs are unblocked in your firewall(evolve/rrtycoon2) it does work but if your ports are blocked(not closed) or your firewall is blocking one prgram it will not work.

Confirmed to work?

YES!!! I have played this multiplayer with another person on Evolve. It does work and was quite easy to setup. Game played fine and had no issues or crashes. I even had an original version patched while other person was on steam version!!

You can enable local RRT2 multi-player (possibly over the internet too, I've not tested) without needing VPN, all you need to do is disable IPv6. This is considered the first IP adapter the game sees and it can't understand what is going on. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929852 for a quick hotfix for this. This is the same for a number of older games. Freelancer for example.

steam should just set up a server..the ship has a server an i believe one of the serious sam games do too..i remeber i think gamespy or something had servers for this because i always seen one other guy playing it on there.

Can you give a bit more details? My friend and I have been trying to get this to work, we've done everything from compatibility mode, disabling the firewall, opening the ports, running on evolve, and admin mode.

But everytime, we see our games on the list, try to connect, but then after 30 seconds it just silently fails.

Can you list more details like what your operating system is? What settings do you run for the game? what should happen when everything is successful? There is literally no information on hosting and setting up games for this anywhere but here.

how do we pressure steam to host a server? having the hang up issue with xfinity router tried everything listed

Hi@ALL any NEWS ?????? It doesnt work with Hamachi,Tunngle and Evolve our IPX-Mode :(

first of all dont disable ipv6, its actual here to stay and will be the only one someday. ( they are running out of ipv4-address someday )

Yes. But that doesn't change the fact that the game doesn't understand IPv6 (This game was created in 1998 back when v6 was very experimental). Turn off v6, play game, turn back on. Not rocket science.
