For groups, depends on the role you want: tank, healer, or dps. I almost always play solo, but from what I’ve read everyone wants to be a dps, there are more groups looking for healers or tanks.

Only PvP is do is fighting for chests, and being a ganking victim (or escaping). Bear paws are a really popular ganking weapon, but I’m pretty impressed with carving sword. Fiend cowl is usually the headgear. Body armor is almost always leather, variety of types. Footwear even more variable. At the chests, seems like deathgivers and bow of Badon are all the rage, and I never like to see an opponent with boltcasters… And curse staffs are a pain in about any situation unless the opponent is equipped specifically against them.

PvE you can use almost anything in blue and yellow zones. Experiment with all sorts of stuff until you find a fun combination. Red and black you have to pay more attention to escaping gankers unless you’re with a group. I don’t get into dungeons much but have read that nature staffs and axes, particularly greataxe, do well in there.

i recommend the uninstall build. Forget playing this game solo.
You're supposed to develop your own builds.
