Yellow zones are similar to blue; players have the option to flag themselves as hostiles and attack non-combatants, but the rewards are little and penalties steep, so very few do this. If you do get ganked in a yellow area, you lose very little, just have to pay a bit of silver to keep your gear in hood shape.
Only in red and black zones is PvP a constant threat. Eventually the lure of the better resources, treasures, and profits in the red and black zones becomes great enough to counterbalance the danger of being ganked, at which point you'll join the rest of us in at least visiting there occasionally, if not living there full-time.
Except, crucially, almost all of the mid-lategame content takes place in those black zones. If you play albion exclusively in the yellow zones, you're playing a much less fun game.
