If you enjoy this genre you will like it. If you just want another RPG with classes and fighting mobs, you will be disappointed, that is not the point of such games.
About the "2024" part. Yep this is probably the best year to start in albion because they opened a brand new server for Europe where everything starts from zero. The Server is only 2 month old which is nothing.
They have about 900k different players over 1 month so dont take the steam number as full. Most people will advise you to use the standalone launcher outside of steam, however i have no opinion about that, i only play steam.
If you have every played eve online, this game shows tons of similarities. Here is a video of a good youtuber, note that this video is 1 year old, but still relevant. Good luck, see you ingame.

Not for old players tho. Since they cant transfer their characters to EU server since devs hate loyal players
I invested real money and time in to the character and Im supsoed to throw it away or keep playing on server that got all the timers set for US players making it very disadvantegeos for EU player.
Not to mention worse ping. Lesser player activity in my main timezone and other things.
Besides new players can be competetive within few weeks.
You do realize that theres more then dozen hardcore crazys that were fully speced in one or two things by the weeks end after launch right?
Id just love to have my imperfect character to play with since I dont have the time to play 8 hours a day to catch up all the weapons to t6-8 with specing the weapons themselfs
Then would cruise around harvesting, do solo dungeons, the occasional corrupted dungeon and mists.
I started doing some black zone play given I had quite a bit of coin but found them pretty stressful - you are constantly looking over your shoulder basically despite them being fairly quiet in terms of actual players in them and those in there tend to be watching their own shoulders for the same.
