Thank you for the response. I see that a lot has changed in simple respect when communicating between two people on message boards since the 1990's. Telling me to go play pac-man or tetris seems a bit disrespectful and those games are more in line for the 1980's, not to show my age but I been playing video games since the 1970's...LOL. Having played many online games since the 1990's, most have had programs within the game that made it easy for players to communicate and organize for a better co-op experience for the playing community. Having to have so many different third party programs that you have to alt tab in and out just to join guilds, organize and communicate seems like we are going backward in MMO gaming.
I was hoping for a bit more guidance from the community on how to better approach it in game to join a guild or maybe someone from the Lymhurst community can offer an invite, but all I got was you Mr. Mat and the basic go F yourself comment, stay classy "brother".
This is unfortunately the way all MMO's have gone so I tend to end up getting bored after a month of not finding a guild, and quit. I have zero interest as well in using voice chat with strangers. A big part of the draw for me playing MMO's when I was younger was the in game chat. I have a kid, and need to be able to come and go as I please. Text chat was much easier as I could leave, and still come back a few minutes later and see what everyone said. With voice chat you miss anything someone says, and people are hard to understand at times, etc. In the past it was just much more convenient, and you could walk around and easily find players RPing, and talking in game.
I commonly hear the "it's quicker than typing to use voice," but that is not really true. I can type about 80 words per minute so it's actually quicker or about the same for me to type lol. You also have to frequently repeat yourself if Discord is acting up, or two people try talking at once. I get most people can't type that fast, but back in the day most could since it was required and you got a lot of practice typing.
Ignore people like Mat they are just trolling, and that as well has become much more common in gaming as it's become mainstream. I guess you have not tried playing many MMO's in the last 10 years, as it's been this way for a long while now. I as well miss playing WoW, UO, EQ, etc back in the 90's early 00's, but the golden years are gone.
Maybe us older folks above 30 should make a guild that doesn't require all the third party stuff :P.
Guessing you didn't read my post :P. It's not hard to communicate via chat if you can type fast. Worked just fine in UO or WoW during pvp/raids. There's also better software to use than Discord, but everyone wants to use that crappy bloatware.
Your not wrong about "fragile egos" either, as I ran into that when I played New World a few month's ago with a guild. Had fun with them for a while, and went ahead and did Discord, but then several members started causing drama and whining about pointless things not game related after catching the end of our conversation since they joined in the middle of it. Kicked a bunch out of the guild including myself for "discrimination" when all we did was talk about the in game factions lol. But they assumed we were being racist and didn't hear the whole conversation. Was a mess.
Been on many raids and dungeon crawls back in the day. Knowing our roles and understanding the game mechanics reduced the need to constantly micromanage every players action within a group. When in a group we had a lot of trust that fellow players either they play tank, heal or dps understood their role and had knowledge of the different mobs we were attacking to reduce damage and death and achieve quick XP. Gaming is getting to the point where its like HR at a corporate job where they have six bosses all standing over your shoulder critiquing every move one makes :) I thought my grandfather who I spent years learning from and was born in 1886 was a slow down and enjoy the view generation, but I guess I'm now at that stage of life wondering why the speed of light is considered slow in this day in age :)
I understand that you're looking a group of people to play with and that the usage of discord for you is not something you're used to, The older we get the harder it is to learn new things, Though if you put some time and effort into it you can get the best result possible.
While the experience you've had while searching for groups within the game has been limited because the game has 5 different regions it is truly saddening finding a group but then they are all spread out on different regions
Depending on the plans you have for this game then you make goals to reach these, just understand the game limitations.
While typing is easier and sometimes more comfortable the speed at which the game goes at PVP, it is better to use voice. I would suggest you try it yourself and every time you get to PVP with a group of people that do not talk and only types, Then pay attention to every small mistake you all make and compare it to talking if the coordination could have been better. From experience I can tell, Using voice is miles ahead of typing and while some games do develop this feature within their games others don't pay much attention and their voice feature sucks, This is why Discord is needed as it is a dedicated voice feature in conjunction with a text app.
If finding a guild or a large amount of people to play, within lymhurst is an issue then I would suggest to do it on a smaller scale by contacting whoever you can and 1 by 1 forming your own group and if you find a bigger group then you all join to them or vice versa
Thank you for the reply, a lot of great advice and information. However, one thing I failed to mention because I don't like bringing it up is that speaking is not something everyone can do. All these years I was able to type and enjoy nearly any game in existence and since everyone else was in the same boat having to read and type to communicate I was considered a normal player. However, just like the real world, MMO gaming is now just as frustrating when trying to communicate in the real world where voice and hearing is expected by everyone. MMO gaming was one of the few places I could feel normal and one of the guys. Individuals with hearing and speech issues are forced out of experience by others who require something some people can not give no matter how much they wish they could. Its a bummer. :(
I really enjoy the game Albion and with it being from the developers of UO, I found a nitch that brings back good memories. However, soloing dungeons and black zones is getting more difficult as I find myself being jumped by many players who pray on those who want to gather resources. I don't want to be limited to just yellow and blue zones and solo dungeons when so much more of the game is built around team play. Its a shame so many guilds won't allow others to just simply be part of the guild without discord because all I can do is simply type when using it and having to alt tab out of game just to read someone else's reply defeats the point when I can simply read their reply in game if they choose to use it.
I do understand your point and yeah gaming has been a safe escape for many throughout the years, however you have to put yourself in the players shoes with whom you want to group and really think about if you would accept to play with someone who plays differently than rest, when 99% of players are doing what's needed to have the smoothest experience possible
Exactly this.
95 % of the time, you don't need to say anything. Just be on voice chat, muted, to hear the call outs.
Also whoever says that writing is just as efficient is just lying. Try typing something important out when you're fighting against a player or a boss and both of your hands are needed for the combat.
Tell me an MMO game that doesn't have cheating and then I will shocked. If you think Albion is the first to have cheats then you are mistaken, cheats have been around before you were born, "brother".
