The Golden Rules of Albion - WIP
I edited these from the Golden Rules of Eve Online, give me your feedback and we'll make them work for Albion:

Be able to afford a loss

Never wear something (or carry something in your inventory) you can’t afford to lose. Yes, not even in yellow zones. Meaning that you should not equip gear you cannot afford to replace and repair.

Consent to PvP

You consent to PvP when you enter any yellow, red, or black zone, and any corrupted dungeon. Get used to the idea.
You can still be attacked in yellow zones, but this is as safe as PVP gets because you only get knocked down and take durability damage.
In most cases, the only way to be 100% safe from aggression inside the game is to be in a blue zone, including cities.
Ultimately you need to think of other PVP players as a monster like any other in a game - if a mob came out of the woods and killed you while you were gathering, would you get upset, or treat is as a lesson to improve how you play?

You will lose stuff, don’t worry!

If you play long enough, you will lose your stuff. It’s only a matter of where and when.
Somebody, somewhere has better skills than you, more experience than you, is smarter than you, has more friends than you and can stay online longer than you.
If you lose stuff, it’s almost always your fault. Really, only yours.

Losing your stuff isn't all that bad

You need to think of your gear like ammo or any other consumable, rather than some prized possession. Once you get over your attachment to your gear, dying and losing it suddenly isn't so bad. The only thing you're really losing is time, and if what you were doing when you lost your stuff was fun, then it was time well spent.

Everyone can scam - and so can you

Never grant rights to stuff you can’t afford to lose either. No exceptions.
People offering free stuff? Probably traps. Be cautious.
Free stuff usually isn’t. Not even resources you mine yourself.
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Paranoia pays off here. Double-check everything.
Harassment or real-life threats are not ok, and you can get a shiny ban for them. Learn the difference.

Experience matters more than gear, gear matters more than money

Just because some character is just a few minutes old doesn’t mean he’s a newbie. Many people have alts. The reverse is also possible, people come back after very long breaks. You could see year-old newbies around too.
All other things being equal (experience, skills), superior numbers more often win a fight rather than superior gear tiers. However, things are hardly ever equal.
Total item points don't matter much either, it’s level of relevant skills and gear to the current situation that does. Yes, that does mean a 4.1 combat-oriented newbie could badly beat up an 8.3 gathering gear veteran.
Bigger is not always better.

More expensive stuff is not always better stuff

Slightly better stuff usually costs many times more than slightly worse stuff. Choose wisely.
Tier 4 is usually cheaper and sufficient in many cases. Sometimes it’s not better. Other times it’s not cheaper. And occasionally, neither cheaper nor better.
There are no “solopwnbuilds” in Albion. Everything you can equip gets ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up if you get hit hard enough.
With enough skills and experience, tier really doesn’t matter all that much.

Use the in-game info

Inspect character and the destiny board are your best friends. Use them all you can.

Unfair circumstances?

There is no such thing as “a fair fight” or “an unfair fight”. There’s only a fight. Circumstances are irrelevant.
Just because you can equip something doesn’t mean you should.

Learn all the things!

Learn all the skills, or as much as you can. If you know what your enemy is using and know their skill mechanics you can counter-play them.

Yellow is quite safe. It is rare to see some a-holes in huge groups ganking gatherers in yellow. Fight in corrupted is not unfair at all. It has item power cap (though it doesn't apply to specs and skills). The only thing is that the game doesn't pair you based on you infamy. But still is 1x1.

The only thing that I would add is "know all skills or at least the much as you can". If you know what your enemy is using and know their skill mechanics you can counter play him. I'm new and everyday I see something new in corrupted. That kind of surprise usually ends up in you getting ♥♥♥♥♥♥

Maybe mention something about potato guilds - guess that could fall under scams but I still see it happen.

What's a potato guild?

Guild with high taxes that targets new players, and essentially offers nothing in return.

Care to elaborate? Not sure this is relevant.
