You can buy premium so that u can farm and gather resources faster but u should look at it as premium=normal game, no-premium=free trial. But tbh u dont have to buy premium to enjoy the game. 1st time i played albion i bought premium for a month and now i came back, made new character and play it w/o premium to see if i get bored, if i stay with the game i'll consider buying premium. You can also buy gold for real money and then sell it for silver but tbh i dont think it matters at all.. maybe at larger scale when it comes to guilds but idk. Oh and about premium, u can buy it without spending real cash. U can buy premium for gold which u can buy with silver which u can make by killing mobs or selling stuff.
In conclusion i dont think this game is p2w.
Have luck.
Also even if you buy 10billion gold and the best gear in the game, you still have to farm the exp/fame to use it.
TL;DR Pay to catch up and become the PKer, or grind for a year+ and roam with a full gank squad for pvp till your combat masteries are all at least 50s.
But if you read my previous comment, you'd know it's not a big deal, nor does paying really bring you much of an advantage when it comes to the endgame, where peoples gear sets cost more than the daily gold exchange limit.
p2w doesn't mean bad, or not fun, it just means you can pay real money for an in game advantage. In this case, it's money, which can buy you extra gear sets or tomes of insight, etc.
Just play the game smart and you will catch up super easily.
If you mean like premium weapons and armors ? No
Special skills and abilities? No
Better gathering yelds for pve player? Yes but it's not really that special if you eat a pork pie and wear gathering armor you get the same effect
Really only benefit is island and monthly challenge which is mostly just a fun pass time and not really a boost
