You can link the native client to steam as a non-steam game though, just wouldn't be able to get steam achievements and such.
Steam works just fine with or without account integration when logging into existing accounts in various games.
They won't allow it because people find ways to sell accounts, if they could be re-registered on Steam. FFS they don't even let you change your account e-mail to prevent that, if you lose access to your e-mail, good luck.
Pretty sure they don't want people reviewing the game that is why they are not doing it
No. He is wrong, that's not how steam workshop works, plenty of other games do it.
There

and it kills any interest to play it any more, im missing out on all steam features for this
Not that it matters. They are censoring reviews anyways.
Q: If I play the trial via the regular client, can I buy the game on Steam and continue playing on the same account I used during the trial?
A: Yes, you can. Once your trial period ends (or during your trial period), purchase the game on Steam and download it. When launching the game, you will be given the opportunity to link a Trial account with Steam.
