Continual improvement is a heavy theme across most MMOs. I suggest finding a specific craft you like (tool making, armor making, weapon making, etc) and focus on gathering those resources while you are out adventuring. We typically have gathering outings, dungeon outings, or a combination. When we are JUST gathering, we take oxen for carrying capacity, if we go to dungeons and such we take our horses.

The reason you want to focus on a skill is each time you make something, you get more experience in that skill. As you gain experience, you can make better/stronger items and ultimately make higher tiers. The better you get, the stronger you are and/or the more money you can make from selling items you make.

Another note is that PvP is a big thing in Albion. Its a good idea to have backup armor/weapons. If you die in a red/black zone, all of your inventory will be taken. It isnt a bad idea to wear lower tier gear until you get a strong feel for the dangerous areas.

Aight I’m gonna use a battle axe and the plate armor. Is that a bad idea?

No build is truly a bad idea. It depends on what u want really. Check the skills on the items, the tier and what not.

Mage Gear (Cloth) > Damage And Heal Power Increase
Ranger Gear (Leather) > Attk Speed
Tank Gear (Plate Armour) > Health and Armor/Magic Resist
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

Should I be using my learning points? I have like 900 I think because I bought the game before it went f2p.

I have no personal experience on if thats good or bad, but all the research that I have done says you should pick one crafting path, and use your learning points there. I am currently doing that with skinning; I only use LP to up my skinning skill on auto-learn. Probably screwing it up, but /shrug

Should i be aiming to craft my own gear? Its really tempting to just buy some on the market. Isn't the only way to do that by crafting a pickaxe below that over and over again?

I wouldnt be opposed to buying it, but having a craft YOU can do would be a way to make money. There is a black market that is an item sink (he sometimes loses items) and people killing and taking loot gives way for a perpetual need to make new items.

I make my own skinning tools and skinners gear, but I buy my weapons. The more things you craft yourself, the more spreadout you will be. While its all possible (depending on the time you put in) its generally not a good idea to try and do everything yourself.

But in order to craft t4 pickaxes you need to create bunches of t3 pickaxes, right?
Monoxide Apr 22, 2019 @ 5:10pm
Correct. You can craft them, and you can also study them. You get twice the experience for studying them, but it destroys the item.

EDIT - you can also make mining gear which I believe will give you experience toward the same skill IIRC.

Oh my god I’m stupid. You can study them?

At a workbench, yes. If you are trying to level up a craft, its 100% recommended. I would only not study something if you are needing to make money off the item.
