I am Guild Master of Blackjack Syndicate, I have 13 personal islands, and I sell around 12-15 million worth of items per day in Sterling auction house. My guild has bit over 160 people in it at the moment, around half log in daily. It is pretty decent mix of old and new players. Any of our newbies are able to obtain premium for silver inside of first week just from following advice we provide and participating in guild events. My advice to all is still to just buy premium for 10 bucks if you can as you can grow your personal economy in game much quicker without wasting your first millions on premium, but investing it in first 3-4 islands and laborers.
I played on a different account back in Beta 1, and used to use Throwing Axes as reference point. Then I left for ESO when this game was actually DEAD. As in 300 or so people online. F2P switch revitalized the game and got me and many others to return. Now Sterling tends to have 1000 people in it 24/7 (spread out between their islands, bank, auction house, and city center).
Steam accounts for relatively small amount of total game population. Therefore Steam Charts is not good resource in this specific game's case.
Game is ONE server. Game is large, but nowhere near something like WOW size. Therefore all it needs to be very healthy is around 3000 players. And it has ten times that, easily.
If these taxes bother you, you do not have even millions, much less billions, to lose. For new players bigger issue is one time cost to get their islands up to max, for veterans most of the tax is felt in auto-respec. Either way it is far from 'end of the world' scenario you are talking about.
First week of tax increase I did hear a lot about it, but couple weeks in, and I am not hearing single person mention it any more. People adapted. I used to change my prices in marketplace more often, but due to extra 1.5% including listing fee increase, now I just pick price points where I know it will sell at without playing with 1 silver below cheapest nonsense and everything still sells inside of 12-14 hours. Lets say that instead of making 16 mil of AH I now make 14/day. More expensive items I do not sell there anyway but direct through trade/discord/alliance.
And 'praying to get ganked'? Seriously? Come on lol.
but the respec cost just affect new players since the rich ones are already having their high specs in multiple builds.
that kinda sucks in my eyes.
they want to remove the ingame silver, but take it from the poor instead of the rich by that
