Make sure the filter settings on the chest/storeroom are set to allow the items you want to store.
Make sure the checkbox is toggled to accept items from the ground.
Look in the job broker tab and set one or two dwarves to only be allowed to do hauling.
On the hauling task icon itself, you can click the +/- to increase or decrease the number of dwarves that can do that type of task at one time.
For instance I have a storage I use basically for lair loot that stays on low until its time to raid a lair. Then its set on high so the dwarves all fill their inventories before heading back up.
If you cant get this to work, you can send me a save game at @bugs@warpzonestudios.com and I can take a look. Just link to this discussion so I'll know whats up.
Low priority means, only otherwise bored dwarves will pick up after them selves.
Normal priority means, dwarves pick up what they encounter if they have room in their pockets.
High priority means dwarves will go down dark shafts for that one mushroom that they just have to have, never mind that they'll get stuck otherwise.
Also, as soon as you can, get the storage room, it works same way as boxes but has 600 instead of 30 slots of space.
Its smart to let all dwarves be able to haul stuff. this way you keep a neat and clean home.
Anyways going to try the other suggestion and put him on high priority see if that works but not been in game since (today was catching up on Genshin) yesterday been checking out Valheim (this is a nice game with many idea's but still has issue's so isnt perfect) BUT i like features that building a house, having a fire in there does require a chimney or else ytou will get smoke aphixiated.
I have also yet to finish off my game on Volcanoids.
