Mortar is.... food?
So I finally found a graveyard and some skeletons to farm to get bones to make ash to finally finally finally make mortar. Which my dwarves then eat. Immediately. Sooo that’s fun.

They don't eat the bone ash, they use it to fertilize the farm. Until this is fixed, make sure your farm has max fertility before crafting bone ash, and queue the arcanist to start building lime ASAP. BTW the bigger buildings that require mortar have cool graphics, but 0 extras over the regular small ones.

It wasn’t the bone ash, it was the mortar they were consuming. I made sure farm had max fertility, too. Watched it happen three times in a row, as soon as the mortar was done. Kinda baffled me tbh. There were outstanding build orders that needed it aaaaaand gone.

Appreciate it. Was not sure if that was the intended mechanic, but it did make me laugh when I saw it. That can’t have tasted good.

jeez on top of lime already being hard to get... i was wondering what happened to all my mortar.. i killed like 3 skeleton things and only got like 10 mortar out of it.. kind of silly lol

I have the same problems... So we can't have large buildings now till it fixed?

I also had serious problems to keep the mortar alive. Now I finally got enough and the Great Hall just wont finish. Everything is thee. But they dont finish it.

Lol... I just took another look at the construction site....now the 2 remaining mortar are reported missing
(They were there initially)

Solved for the patch. You can test it out in the experimental branch if you'd like.

i dont understand what bone ash has to do with mortar? the ingredients for mortar are water, lime and granite, lime is an inorganic material, bone is not. why even list lime as an ingredient, if lime isnt even something you can get?
Lt Dan Nov 3, 2020 @ 8:07am
Well calcium is a binding agent used in cement/mortar and bones are a source of calcium so its..
fine. but i do think its way to much of a hassle to produce mortar. I just pretty much gave up on that part until something changes.

no, i get that bone ash can be used as a subsitute for cement etc, im saying, why does the game tell you lime, when lime doesnt seem to exist, but is uses bone ash, which the game doesnt say that it does.

I am also very much confused and conflicted about lime.
