Haven't seen any further responses for suggestions.
Hope there is one, play it all the time.
Go to C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Railroads.....
and run the RailRoads. exe file.
Run as an administer
Why does Railroads.Exe spawn a sub-task called Rundll32.exe that goes out to Microsoft? It is a fact that I can execute as Administrator (THANKS wizardtac) but it sure seems like there is no reason to stream back to Redmond WA (on IP 40.113.76.66) when launching from Steam.
I see a gameux.dll active in here ; typically UX is User Experience jargon.
"Games Explorer" Product Version 6.17601.18020 on about a 20 second interval
Don't need it; don't want it.
Is this some kind of trade dispute?
Is my favorite game End Of Life?
What's Microsoft's interest anyway?
Is this a vestigial software tail that Firaxis should have lopped off?
Is is some support modality for Steam support that will never come?
What's the deal?
Can we please NOT launch manually in Administrator mode?
FOREVER?
Does this help? (I just googled gameux) https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-gaming/windows-7-game-explorer-interfering-with-game/efd39c74-cfab-4c2c-b6c5-834b8849a1b3?auth=1&page=1

I've already done this and sadly the game crashes still, like within minutes of starting.
Ok so after further investigation, it was a custom map I had installed that was causing the crashes. After removing said map from the directories, I started the game using a vanilla map and played for three hours without any issues.
The issue with the custom map is in the readme file the guy says that you may need to put the files in directory A instead of the recommended directory B cause testers of his maps said they experienced crashes. I did what he suggested, tried both locations and still crashed. So I’ll have to go back to that site and see if there is something about it.
The two .fpk files either go in CustomAssets or UserAssets. Sadly, both locations (not at same time) cause crashes. One location the game starts as does the scenario with the custom map. The other location the game crashes while starting.
Glad to help. Btw, any suggestions on custom maps? Know anyway around the crashes? Or just steer clear of them altogether?
