Controller Compatibility?
Would anyone know if only certain controllers will work with Shenmue I & II?

I'm using a generic controller, and when I say generic I mean from Radio Shack generic. It is mapped into my steam settings, so steam detects and reads it just fine. All the buttons function properly, registering on steam and the windows gamepad settings. But when I launch both Shenmue I & II the controller is not available in the game settings. Even if I manually try to change a single button with a controller button, it doesn't read any of the controller's inputs.

Can you get the steam controllers at a Game Stop or Best Buy? I'm considering running out and buying one just to see if that will work. I'm stuck and frustrated on this one, been searching and can't find any solutions or answers. Thanks so much for your help.

Some system information:
Windows 10 Pro x64, fresh OS install today
Geforce GTX 1080 Ti
AMD FX 4100 (3.60Ghz)
16GB RAM
All updates installed
All drivers installed

Best Regards,
Arch

So, two separate things to note. 1) When remapping the controller inputs, the game won't actually show them in the keybindings page of the options. But probably more importantly in your case, 2) game seems to use XInput and to have issues with others. So if you've tried going into Steam > Settings > Controllers > General controller settings and making sure either generic controller and/or your exact controller (if it shows up) is ticked and it still isn't detecting it, then you may need an XInput wrapper program like eX360e, Xpadder, etc. and then create a controller map for it. With that, the game should treat it just like a 360 controller and see it.

I have the same issue, but I'm using a PS2 controller with an USB adapter. Still is "generic". Other Steam games work perfectly with it. And I know there are emulators/wrappers, but I want native support. Playing with keyboard is a PITA.

Thanks Vamphaery,
I got myself a copy of Xpadder and the controller functionality is working. It's a giant headache to get it mapped out, but it does work.

Thanks so much!
