How good is the shotgun?

It seems like every game implements their shotgun spread differently. How tight is the spread? How is the damage? Is it worth the price?

During the game you get a free pistol and a free rifle. Of the remaining weapons you can buy, the shotgun is the cheapest. You will earn more than enough money to buy it simply to get the achievement if nothing else. It holds four slugs. If you fire three and reload, it will be faster than firing four and reloading. It is good for short distance attackers. Using it in areas other than the head and too far away will not work well. It's good in the missions where you are in a small area, like the motel, but the small amount of ammo inside the gun means you'll be reloading a lot.

i mean, correct me if am wrong BUT, wouldnt that turn the pistol and rifle the cheapest weapons in the game if you get them for "free"??? ... sorry i couldnt resist to point that out x3,

My opinion is the shotgun is useless. Efficient range is short, ammo capacity is low, and take pretty long to reload. It needs to be very close to the enemy to one-shot them, but you one-shot enemy anyway if you land a headshot

Shotgun is somewhat underwhelming and cumbersome to shoot! I always use either the handgun or the machine guns!

Personal experience, the shotgun doesn't feel strong despite having the highest damage value. At close range it feels like a two-three hit body shot and the 4 shell capacity isn't enough. Likewise, I feel the same for the "Sniper" as it has high damage but low magazine capacity/rate of fire.

The SMG, while having the lowest damage value, is really satisfying to shoot due to its high rate of fire and magazine capacity.
