There are a lot of guides on the weapons, if you go on the guide tab, you see a few peoples opinions.

My Opinions: (from most important to lest when grabbing them)

SMGs:

MPX-SD:
The most versatile of the 3 SMGs in the game, Hit has a good bit of distance, little Recoil so very stable, Automatically SIlenced, and has a good Rate of Fire. Needs a Extended Mag to be really god, but overall best one to pick up.

Vector:
Best Close Quarter SMG. While I believe charts say it has a bit more Range then the MPX, the Vector, has a tad more RNG with distance. While being the most stable of the SMGs, it has the highest rate of fire as well, with a 13 standard clip, it gets empty real quick, and puts you in bad situations. Reason why you go up close so you don't miss, and before they can do 1 shot on you, they are dead. Extended map is manditory for this gun, and the .45 ACP is a bit harder to find then the 9MM.

MP5:
Probably the Weakest, of the 3 SMGs, while having the higher Magazine Compacity, being 30, (40 with extended Mag) the gun has some RNG to it's shots, even when you kit it out. Coupled with the slow rate of fire, makes it very hard to kill with, unless you surprise them.

Assault Rifles:

M4A1:
In my honest Opinion if you can kit this gun out with everything this gun is overall the best Assault Rifle, No Heavy Recoil, good shooting distance, good Rate of Fire and damage per bullet, very accurate in small bursts or full auto. If you don't get it fully kit on it, it has a very rough handle.

AUG:
While I don't always get this gun, it has done wonders for me. It is a Loot Crate exclusive and is considered one of the best drops in game. Like the Full Kit M4, this gun has a very decent stability, fire rate, range and damage. It has the largest magazine capacity when you get the extended magazine and just overall great. Only flaw is that it is Loot Drop Exclusive, while it is the most common drop on a crate, it is still a risk to get compared to the other Assault Rifles.

AK47:
While not the best stability, this gun is a heavy hitter, get a Compensator on it, and a x2, it can out power the M4A1, while this is a good gun, it overall is harder to control and people makes it use as a DMR replacement.

LVOA-C:
The most early stable Assault Rifle in the game for random ground pick ups. It very versatile, and can be considered teh Jack of All Trades of the guns. While some of the shots can be off a bit, it is still a good gun, especially for early pick ups, compared to a AK or M4. But again the problem with the gun is that Once you get more attachments the the other two guns sorta outshine it.

FAMAS:
Now we are at the rough to try not to use of the Assautl Rifles unless you get a lot of practice with them. FAMAS is a High Rate of Fire, mid range gun. While I hear their some stability changes, it still has a lot of kick back when trying to use even a x2 scope in full kit. But getting it using it in close ranges is still a good thing about it, as it can kill faster then most of the guns higher on the list.

Groza:
Still in my opinion the hardest to use gun in the game. Hit has very hard Kick Back when shooting and has super high rate of fire. Most people would use it similar to a DMR like the AK, turning it into single shot, but unlike the AK it can't really do full auto.
-------------------

Sniper Rifles:

R700:
If you are going for a good gun, this gun is powerful, a 2 shot kill to body but 1 shot to the head unless you have a level 2 helmet, it is practically the king of ground drops for snipers. Great Power, Great Range, and common ammo. While it can't be good in close combat encounters, in good hands it is the best.

M200:
Truth is, this is actually tied to be the most powerful gun of the Sniper Class. While being slightly louder, this gun, can practically 1 shot a body with a level 1 Armor. even a level 2. No Bullet Drop, and having the fastest bullet, this thing can easily be higher then R700 when ranking but being a very Rare drop on Air Drop Crates, along with having it's own special Ammo, it can't be used as lightly as the R700, and makes it just a tad inferior.

Mosin Nagant:
While not my favorite, just like the other two guns this gun can 1 tap a Head, but 3 tap a body in level 1 armor. While only having the extended magazine, it has it's own build in x4 Scope. Overall good.

MK12 and G28:
These two are the only true DMRs in teh game, and as such they have little to no difference when it comes to performance. The G28 has slightly Higher Rate of Fire, and mroe damage, while the MK12, slightly has more Stability, Range and Ammo. Overall they are pretty even when it comes down to it, what AR you are using and which one you really want to use. They are much more usefull for light builds as these DMRs can handle both range and close combat. As such this can go above the Mosin at times.

VKS:
While being the same damage as a M200, that can 1 tap anyone. Having the biggest Silencer that you can barely hear it, a house away. This gun is a Bolt Action Rifle with the Range of a Pistol. Frankly it is tough to use, if you miss the first shot, you are dead. Also using the ammo that no one ever picks up, and being a Air Drop exclusing weapon just makes it even worse. Overalll, the only gun I would say NEVER USE.
---------

Shotguns:

Origin-12:
While not the best of weapons, shot guns can easily 1 tap anyone who gets into talking range but games are ussually mid range to far range battles after the first 2 minutes. Being the Automatic of the Shotguns, this gun is the best of them. It can use scopes, and use extended Magazines, has a good reload time. If you gotta use a Shotgun early this is the gun to use.

Citori:
While a starting gun and can't use anything then a choker, and only 2 shots it is the fastest shooting of the 3 Shotguns. If you really need to take someone out, this is the gun to use and it pretty decent early in the game.

R870:
While has the potential of 1 shot kills like the other guns, and can use more attachments then the Citory, as well as having more Ammo capacity. This gun is very slow in shooting. Not super bad but not a gun anyone would really use.

------

Light Machine Guns:

MPK:
I have really used, it is loud, it is fun but it is not a gun to use lightly. It very hard to control, slightly slow rate of fire, no attachments, and very slow on the reloads. Not my cup of tea but can handle well.

MG4:
I only seen it once, I used it once and I don't think I will use it again. Some people call it a game changer, It holds I believe more ammo then the MPK, and said to have less kick back, it is still rough for me. If I can find it again, I try to experiment on it, but overall it just my opinion on my first and only try with it.

+1 for the detailed analysis, heroguanlet. I think it's better than most I've seen on Reddit threads.

In terms of my personal favorites...

My setup usually involves an assault rifle, a sub or regular machine gun, and some kind of sniper rifle or DMR.

For assault rifles, I usually go for the M4A1. 2nd best to the M4A1 is the LVOA-C, which I have found to be rather useful in close range rather than long range. Everything else is garbage compared to those two weapons.

If you like close-quarters combat, you'll want the PKM. It's approximately 3-4 body shots for a kill and it shreds. I've found it very useful for those games where latency and hit registration screw me over as it helped me make pretty decent recoveries in close situations.

As for snipers/DMRs, I try to go for a G28 simply because it does more damage than the MK12. However, I only go for that if I can't find a Mosin Nagant or some better sniper rifle like a Remington R700.

Shotguns and pistols... just avoid those. *glares at the Desert Eagle* Pistols are okay as starters, but if you're in a large area where there's bound to be other weapons, just skip these.

You should probably get in the habit of using sub-machine guns since a lot of the challenges involve those weapon types and they can be decent fillers if you have nothing else you can find. Vector is the best sub-machine gun out there if you can aim well with it at close range and have an Extended Sub-Machine Gun Magazine to go with it, but that's really the only thing that makes it useful. MP5 is probably better than the former in terms of magazine size, which is what really turns me off from Vector.

I've used the MG4, but it's not all that great. The kickback is still pretty bad on it, but it's about the equivalent of the AUG (which you also find in air drops), which, in my opinion, is not worth the risk. The only thing you can add onto it is a scope and the ammo count is roughly the same as the PKM.
