The Force Multiplier (Amplified Force in the achievements) was implied to be something about how much torque you could apply when rotating the adjunct in a console. Maybe there were consoles where the basic strength wasn't enough to activate it? I never noticed any.
One Force Multiplier socket was the furnace in Curievale, the second was the roof hatch of the Camelus in St. Andrew, and the third was the Sulfur mine entrance door in Juleston.
They also each required a concatenated action over long distances to power them. Basically meaning that no single realm could be completed until all three spires were raised and all three upgrades gained. I noticed the arches lock you in so you can't leave with an upgrade without raising the realm's spire first.
