Can't remap Key Bindings?
As a lefty, I can't use WASD for movement. From what I recall, every other Cyan game supported this, but Firmament does not?

I play on an Alienware laptop, so shifting the keyboard isn't an option. In this day and age you would expect that any game developer would appreciate the benefit of being able to remap keys.

As a rule, if I buy a game where I can't change movement to the arrow keys, I immediately ask for a refund. I'm not a big fan of third party apps - and certainly not for something that should be an embedded function.

Being a supporter at the $250 level makes this even more disappointing, particularly when you consider that with Obduction this was possible.

Oh well. Back to Fallout 76, I guess.

Just came here to try to find out about key mapping myself. I am so used to games letting me use the arrow keys to move it is going to take a lot of getting used to in order to use the ones this is set to. Very surprised that they can't be changed.

With the advice from two.2 I finally broke down and downloaded a key mapping program - Key Tweak - that can do whatever you like. Remap the keys, and run it just before your game.

I agree that in this day and age the developers should have the good sense to have this as an embedded function, but it is what it is.

Is Key Tweak worth using? I am used to using Arrow Keys for movement in games as well, even had to use a downloaded config file for Star Wars Jedi Survivor to be able to use Arrow Keys in that game. Another side question I have is, how do I get past the first crane and cross the nearby bridge? Help on both issues appreciated :)

I recommend glovePIE. Besides its uglyness it has a big advantage compared to other key remapping tools: it does NOT rewrite your registry but lets you start/stop on the fly, and without a system reboot. You can also remap mouse buttons or any other identified input, plus you can save and load profiles!
Been using it for years and I think it works just great :D

It's 2023 and I've played plenty of games made by solo developers that have key remapping. The Cyan team can't do the basics?

Which version of GlovePie are you using, and did you get it to work with Firmament? I am trying to use the 0.46 free version and Arrow Keys don't work in game when I run the script in GlovePie.
Here is what my Script looks like:
Key.Up = Keyboard.W
Key.Down = Keyboard.S
Key.Left = Keyboard.A
Key.Right = Keyboard.D
Key.RightShift = Keyboard.LeftShift

Help appreciated :)

And it's even a Unreal Engine game. smh

Anyway: Should be rebindable via input.ini. Problem is figuring out wtf the binds and actions is called in game

If you would like a nice rant about a lack of rebinding, here's one from youtuber Gopher.

just watch any random live stream with him and you get your keybind rant for 30+ minutes.

You need to do it vice versa. The left side is the OUTPUT (the value you want the system to give out), the right one is the INPUT (the key you want to press). It's a little counter-intuitive.

GlovePIE does in no way depend on the game, it changes the whole OS inputs (I don't play Firmament yet). I'm also using the newest version and was on 0.43 before for a long time.
I took a closer look now after years and I have to admit that it seems to be that glovePIE outputs both values; so in your case the system goes for "up and w" at the same time, technically. Which hopefully shouldn't be an issue in most cases. You can easily check this in a text file for example.

It also silently crashed a few times when I tested it now, never happened before in all my years using it. Hm.

Anyway, best of luck with it :-)

Try edit input.ini
Of course what you have to put in i dont know.

-1 for no keybind option
-2 for Not having continue as Firsst option in main menu
-4 for narrator not working (might actually be a +5 though. She was quite annoying the few minutes she talked annoyingly)

No, not natively in game and it doesn't have the necessary lines in the config files either.

Some will balk at it but you could just use a keybinding 3rd party application and bind the keys eg w to up arrow and move past it.

An alternative that some will balk at more so is to use a controller.

Your 3rd option is move the keyboard so it lines up with your other hand.

Your last option is to not play the game.

I do not want to spend time installing a third party application which writes in the windows registry.

I don't have a controller and I don't want to buy one just to play with... a Myst Like !

I'm left handed and I play on a laptop. Moreover, I have an french keyboard and the W key (use to move FORWARD) is located on the bottom left of the keyboard...

So I chose not play the game and asked for a refund.

How much money Cyan won't earn juste for that ? Stupidly too much...

Lefty here also. While the WASD keys are on the left side of the standard keyboard and you might think that would be fine, I've never used them and always used the arrow keys because on my keyboard the arrow keys have good physical separation from any other keys. The WASD keys have too many neighbor keys that have functions in the game.
Feels cramped.
I'm this far away (thumb and index finger gap of about 1/4") from getting a refund but will give it a couple of days and hope somebody posts an acceptable solution here or somewhere.
