Feel free to use a mod if it bothers you.
But yeah, nothing wrong with trying out the mod if it's getting in your way of enjoying the game
Were you annoyed of the 3 days cycle in Majora's Mask too ?
Now there is also a limit as to how much drama an individual is willing to experience. Sometimes you just want to eat something simple, just have quick sex, just take a nap, just bask in the sun, etc and you do not want drama or a challenge.
So I would suggest that you try exploring a large amount of the beginning game with no mods, and enjoy it for how it was designed and built. Then you may find a point where you want to just use a walkthrough, or turn on mods, etc. to remove drama and complexity and just get the satisfaction of completing the game.
TL:DR - Just try the game mechanic as designed for awhile and see if you get into it, there are a lot of activities hidden all over the place that don't require a lot of time or skill. Then proceed from there.
I've seen the same thing (feeling as if the time loop is too short) come up in many reviews of the game, and it really surprises me. The thing is, this game is not (supposed to be) mechanically difficult. With a decent grasp of the ship and jetpack controls, you should be able to get to almost any location in the (base) game in ~ 3 minutes or less, starting from Timber Hearth. However, you should note that some places have multiple entrances. The more shortcut-like entrances are usually hidden and typically have to be first used as exits, before you realize you can use them to enter the places quickly.
So if you feel like you don't have to time to explore a location even if you know how to get there, or you have to execute some difficult maneuver or somesuch, it usually means you haven't found or realized the way of getting there fast and easy.
I'm not absolutely sure which portals you're referring to, and I would probably veer into spoiler territory by guessing. However, if my memory serves me right, there shouldn't be only-one-time-use portals or similar travel methods in the game, with two (sort of) exceptions in the base game and one in the DLC (all of which are rather special cases).
Or not too long but in 90% of my runs I either kill myself or use a specific mechanic (to avoid spoilers Im not saying which) to end the loop earlier.
Only once Ive run out of time while I still wanted to explore something.
