(DLC) I figured out how you're intended to get through the stealth sections
No trickery or room layout memorization needed! It's just very unintutive.

----PADDING----

So, here's how the lantern works, and how the sentries spot you:
1, in normal mode you can see your immediate surroundings, and the light emitted won't activate anything. Sentries can spot you easily from a long way away if your lantern is in this mode.
2, in Focus mode the light is, well, focused, and you can only see what you're pointing at. This will activate stuff. Sentries CANNOT spot you in this mode unless you shine the light directly on them. However, you also move slowly while in Focus mode.
3, in Conceal mode the light is blocked. Sentries cannot spot you in this mode, obviously, but you won't have any way to see in the dark, and that's a problem. Movement speed is normal in this mode.

The unintuitive part is that you can use Focus as much as you want near sentries so long as you don't shine the light on them. Because of this, you can use Focus to look at the environment and reorient yourself to move in Conceal mode, instead of resorting to normal mode when you get lost in the dark.

That part was easy enough. How the hell do you get past the house? There's four sentries in there and they always spot you.

I find that you use you light to gain their attention first then sneak by them when they go to where they think you are works.

You mean in the lowlands? The one that you reach through a secret tunnel? Go there from a different dream with boats after the dam breaks.

You can bypass all three stealth segments by applying logic. I'll admit, I brute forced my way through the cliffside lodge before I learned from these forums how to completely bypass the stealth bit there.

Everyone probably is already aware of the lowlands/marsh technique (it's already been mentioned in this thread), but not many are aware that you can do the same thing to the well if you wait long enough; the problem is you have to be quick to reap the rewards before you are reset on the loop. I don't recommend this, however, because knowledge gained from one of the other two areas can be utilized to trivialize the well infiltration. You have to dodge two Strangers, but with the new technique this will be anglerfish tier.

If you mean jumping diagonally down onto the stairs I don't think that's intended.
I was having an incredibly hard time with that area before I figured out Focus hides you. That was the first sentry area I attempted too, so not a good introduction to the lantern mechanics.

It is probably the easiest of those locations, to be honest. At the beginning use the painting shortcut to reach the totem and turn of the lights on the other side. After that, use the invisible bridge on the right - it'll lead you inside the house. Walk down the stairs. At the end of the stairs turn your light off (behind the stairs on the left is staying one owl). Simply go diagonally forward-left through the room - you'll see the light inside the cave on the other side. Cross the invisible bridge and you are free to turn your light on.

The problem with that solution is at the end of the area, you find the slide that tells you about walking away from the lamp. Without that information, you're not going to know about the invisible bridge that leads to the elevator, because there's no indication that it's there.

Funny thing is, when I was captured for the first time in the lowlands and saw the animation I thought: "If I just leave the artifact somewhere, how will the owl kick me out?" - thanks to that, it was possible to find "the Matrix" very early.

No, are we talking Lodge?
Simply blow out the lights in the lodge, wake yourself up, and then arrive at the lodge from another location (probably tower for time considerations) and take the lift up. Take the stairs down into the main room and make a beeline for the door. If you already know enough about how to blow out the lights in the lodge, then you'll be aware that you can likely sprint straight for the lift without worrying about falling into the water.

It is possible that you might run into the stranger patrolling down at the bottom of the lodge, but you can ignore him and go straight for the lift even if he notices you. I don't believe he will cross the bridge after you,
not that I've ever stopped to check.

So much for "stealth."

You don't need to know about that particular bridge. Before I was aware of matrix mode, I simply used the rafts and came to the lodge from the tower (then again, I had brute forced that section previously and my loathing for the Strangers likely stems from that experience). I figure that's the "canon" way to clear that area.
