and yeah obviously get lucky enough to not hit a tornado or island.
Yeah i did, I'm telling you what you need as a minimum to do it.
If you're getting 8km/s then I guess you've just been unlucky but at that speed unless you are hitting something or somehow getting the speedometer wrong you're practically guaranteed to break through the current.
I mean to reach that speed you have to be even further than this[i.imgur.com] far away.
here's a video of someone doing it at 6km/s https://www.reddit.com/r/outerwilds/comments/c8orr5/whats_your_speed_record/
Fly to Giant's Deep and enter landing camera mode (this is to centre the planet). Accelerate upwards until you're 5000km away from Giant's Deep. At that point start to accelerate downwards while still in the landing camera. If you're lucky and you miss the sun/cannon/islands you should break through going between 10,000 m/s - 15,000 m/s. It seems like you need to go A LOT faster in the Steam version
I struggled with this the whole day and was kinda pissed since all help i could find are people writing "you need at least 3 4 5 6 7 k m/s etc." or "use landing mode it will work".
I did all of it and nothing worked so I also thought maybe its actually a proplem with the game or rather a problem with my profile.
I went and created a new profile (via the main menu option "change profile") and did nothing else besides getting the start code. I did everything 100% the same way as I did on my default profile.
I reached Giant's Deep with around 5000 or 6000 m/s and got the achievement first try.
Try it out with a different profile.
I video-recorded my attempts and then stepped through them frame by frame. I discovered that it only takes 2 frames to go from space to surface and just 1 more frame to come to a complete halt in the water. So it's possible that the engine is too imprecise to handle this and cuts your speed too early.
For my successful attempt, I used a speed of 10,000 m/s and ran the game at 720x400 on minimum details to give the game engine the most cpu time possible so that it wouldn't frame-skip on me when it tries to load the entire planet surface in a single frame.
I combined these 2 methods but unfortunately it didn't help. Have no idea what to do T_T even tried to change the speed via CE but it doesn't work here
Last 6 tries I used the camera mode, no result
Sure, I beat the game
I didn't notice hitting a tornado at 7k but it sounds likely something can unluckily get in the way, shame since it takes so long to get that kinda speed!
Earlier tried with 6,7,8k/sec. On 13.8k/sec even decreased the screen resolution from 4k to FullHD, but still. Does anyone know how to beat this glitch?
This thread was really helpful, thank you.
